Either way I'd think we both agree there will never be another Freddie and personally I'm just thankful I got to see Queen live twice before his passing.

The other guy sounds like karaoke Freddie. He'd be great in a bar for free, but I'm not paying to watch him. |

If you're really invested in this, better hope it gets a release before all the Singer mishegas explodes.
Can't be long at this point, surprised it's made it this far, particularly with Spacey fighting for his life and livelihood.

From Marc Martel's Facebook page
Ladies and gentlemen, big news. In fact, some of the biggest news of my professional career, which, until just very recently, has been kept secret. Vague posts on my socials about clandestine trips to London, and selfies from Abbey Road Studios over the last year and a half, have perhaps been subtle hints to what some of you have already figured out. I’m so happy to finally officially announce my involvement in the upcoming 20th Century Fox film, Bohemian Rhapsody. Back in December 2016, we received a call from GK Films, asking if I’d consider lending my voice to the movie. It was a little surreal getting that first call, as it was something I’d often daydreamed about. Like, “What if…?” - and then it actually happens! It has seriously been one of the best experiences of my life so far, and I’m so relieved to finally share it with you all. Now in the post-production phase, the film’s singing aspects will feature a mix of Freddie Mercury’s voice, my voice, and that of Rami Malek, who is playing the role of Freddie. All of this is being synergistically arranged into a seamless, immersive experience of the life of one of the world’s most beloved entertainers, brought to the big screen. It’s no secret that many of you have patiently waited for this for decades now, and I couldn’t be more excited for you to finally see what Queen, alongside the very best in the movie-making world… and me (!!!!), have been up to. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see that Bohemian Rhapsody goes from just fantasy to real life [cue groans] November 2nd, all over North America. Hooray! |

The movie was largely perfunctory in covering all the expected bases until the finale which was really amazing. The movie is worth the price of admission for the final 20 minutes alone. Lots of clapping in my theater...

I really enjoyed it. I can see both sides of the critical argument, though, that it was too light in order to get the pg13, but I really didn't care. It was fun and ultimately Freddie Mercury only ever wanted to entertain people. There are lots of criticisms about the license taken with the truth and timeline, and I can see those too, but again they didn't bother me. Nobody was going to be able to make a movie that was absolutely true because most of those he confided his truths to, including Queen members, have been protecting his privacy loyally all this time and continue to do so. Everyone else has an agenda. His creative process was his true satisfaction and he did his best work with his band. The movie is very true to that.
I keep trying to imagine what the darker movie everyone is clamoring for would look like and I think it would suffer from the same primary criticism I have of this one. It is just too much to cover. The time required to slow down and build depth into the character would leave little time for the musical story and the rest of the band. It would have been very sad or even worse just an exercise in shaming him. I don't want to watch that. I went in hoping for a stylized (definitely not real) portrait of a very unusual band with some great concert moments to get lost in (I regularly watch Queen Rock Montreal) and a portrayal of Freddie that was not a cartoon. Overall, I think that is what it is. I do wish they had paid a little bit more for some better crowd effects for Live Aid. |

Oh and also, anyone else see Queen in Kansas City? I was at the 1982 Kemper concert. I loved it, one of the only big concerts I really enjoyed. I was supposed to go to the 1980 at Kemper, but my older sister got grounded and my dad wouldn't drop me off for a concert alone at 10 years old, nor would he go with me. Instead, he went down there and sold the tickets. (at face value, my father would never scalp!) God I cried alot that night.

They were ok, at least for their first couple of records.
