Chris Simms "the blatant DPI on Hill was the turning point in the game"

Simms confirms what I said yesterday at 20:30 in the breakdown video.

I dont care what anyone says...the officials changed the course of the game on that play. It resulted in a potential 14 point swing in a matter of plays...

Raiders dont win this game if that is called correctly...refs altered the dynamic.

Lets them have their sham victory lap...with Clete Blakeman driving the bus. Their fans know...

Blakeman officiated the NE/Jags AFCCG...which was one of the most blatant hatchet jobs in playoff history. He also did the Rams/Chiefs AND the Chiefs/NE AFCCG in 2018. The Chris Jones "roughing" Brady call might have been his finest work...

His record speaks for itself...controversy follows this douchebag.

The penalty against Kelce that took a TD off the board was awful as well. I'm not sure any contact was even made there.

Yep. He kept saying, "Good no call because the defender(forgot his name) was playing the ball." So, I watched the replays thinking that I may have missed something. Just as he was saying it again, I saw the exact opposite in that the defender was beat and crashed into Hill clearly before the ball arrived. He was NEVER playing the ball. It was textbook DPI - the kind they show at "Ref School" as a perfect example of DPI. It was DPI on any level of football as it was that obvious...Davis was full of shit for saying it was any other way. He knew it and that's why he was making such a huge case against the call trying to convince himself and anyone who would listen....

Still, the Chiefs should not have put themselves in position to be victimized by a blown call that would be so telling on the outcome of a game. How about play better so if it happens, its a non issue. Both lines got outplayed all game. That was the biggest reason they lost IMO.

You all have made some strong points and I’m not going to regurgitate them myself.

But just think about all these subjective, shit calls that were made in favor of the Faid, and they still narrowly got away with the win. On a day when both the offense and defense were quite sloppy for KC.

My point would be, we aren’t going to see this outcome very often.

That being said, it's kind of hard to say it directly led to a 14-point swing because the Raiders' subsequent score was a 72-yard bomb caused by a complete breakdown in the defensive backfield.

It also happened AFTER the Chiefs defense gave up back-to-back 5 play, 75 yard drives.

So your final point is by far the most important - if you don't want the officials to hurt you with their ineptitude, don't play like shit.
Yep. The Chiefs played like crap. There were definitely some questionable calls, most that went against the Chiefs. Still, the offense couldn't do squat in the 2nd half until late in the 4th quarter. They have to be better.

This is why Simms remains one of my favorite analysts. I just feel like he nailed everything.

Offense: start taking the short stuff, adjust to these deep zone coverages quicker.

Defense: called Carr and Gruden’s bluff like they did against Baltimore, this time it backfired on Carr’s best day.

Can't let that happen.

The Osemele one is bullshit. He's inside the shoulder pads there and the dude falls down. Sorry, thats not a hold.

The Hill one is just blatant. Then the Schwartz hold later? Come on.
Lets not forget that every KC return seemed to come with a penalty...or the missed horse-collar tackle that was 5 yards out of bounds.

Penalties on returns is one "tried and true" method to control field position...

It was obvious the game was called to keep the Raiders in the game...and to cover the spread.

As that article states...Vegas sportbooks made out like bandits...just like they did in the Raiders/Saints opener. Anyone remember that 3 play sequence in the 3rd quarter..where they threw a flag on every play? They weren't going to allow the Saints to blow their payout..

I texted my brother early in the game and said it sure looks like these officials had LV +11.

I hate that shit but I don’t think we will ever deal with it when it matters most thankfully.

The hold on Osemele and the non DPI call on Hill cost the us game. It really is that simple.

But even that said, the sun shines on a dog's ass every so often. What happened on defense is clearly correctible, and I feel Spags kind of went full Sutton with his seemingly unwillingness to switch things up in the second half. I am not in pearl clutching mode after this loss.

That's exactly what happened.

The refs were shit, no doubt about it. They were shit last week too against the Patriots, and a major, blatant call went our way. It's not an excuse though and it deflects from the real issue in that game.

The thing about momentum is that it can switch the other way just as quick with some good play. That good play never came in the 2nd half. The Raiders adjusted, the Chiefs didn't give a **** and yet again refused to play small ball.

Simms nailed it on the analysis. And you saw it happen in real time during the game.

The Patriots and Raiders both rushed 3, congested the coverage and used a 4th man to spy Mahomes.

The 4th guy as a spy is the big thing here. It's an evolution of the 4-man rush strategy that L.A and SF used. When L.A and SF rushed 4, if they didn't get there but the coverage held, Mahomes would just scramble for a 1st.

The Patriots (and copied by the Raiders) solution to that was to continue to congest the passing lanes, but instead of rushing 4, they'd rush 3 and spy Mahomes thus taking away those scrambles.

The Chiefs MUST recognize these coverages earlier, develop their small-ball game and put together some methodical drives.

The offense has struggled this season for halves at a time because of this defensive strategy of congesting the passing lanes, and now this new wrinkle of a 3 man rush with a spy makes it worse.

Ya, bad calls happen and you have to overcome them

It was just odd that they have a rules expert in the booth who didn't even comment on a huge penalty (that I can remember as I haven't rewatched it). Felt like Davis was so intensely off base they chose to avoid any awkwardness by not having the official in the booth counter him. Just terrible analysis by Davis.

The good thing (and also most frustrating aspect) is we saw the Chiefs have to adapt to this last year. But they did successfully do it in the latter 1/3 of the season.

So while they are late to the party, we know that they can and will do it.

Also, don't lose sight of the fact that despite all of that happening, the bad refs, the Chiefs 2nd half offensive failure, they were still a 4th and 1 away from getting the ball back to go on a game tying drive.

I'd also like to mention the Chiefs secondary failing to be prepared for the Raiders with Henry Rugs. Our DB's bit hard on crossing routes, thinking it was the same old Derrick Carr, and Carr found his nuts and went over the top.

This game wasn't so much on the refs as it was on the coaching staff.

**** it, i'll say it: The Chiefs were outcoached.

Andy hammered that point in his pressers, that was his first thing. Said they were outcoached all the way around and they were.

Yep. I was shocked to see Spags not switch it up too much in the second half. It is well documented that Carr will pee his pants when pressured, and when it was clear our front four just wasn't going to get it done, he should have started sending five and six guys in (and to be fair, maybe he did and it just wasn't effective, but I don't remember it). The Breeland pick came with Carr under pressure, you have to get in his face.
