810 Just said someone got murderd outside Arrowhead

Police: Man who died at Arrowhead was in a vehicle similar to one he arrived in
December 3
BY CHRISTINE VENDEL
The Kansas City Star

A Smithville man who was found in someone else’s Jeep and then died in a struggle outside Arrowhead Stadium Sunday had gone to the game in a similar vehicle that was parked nearby, police said Tuesday.

The Jeep also showed no signs of a break-in, leading police to believe it may have been left unlocked when Kyle Van Winkle, 30, climbed in and sat down.

Police released the additional details Tuesday as they continued to investigate what led to the death of Van Winkle, who had attended the Chiefs game against the Denver Broncos with relatives.

Detectives planned to interview relatives Tuesday to determine when they last saw him inside the stadium.

Police were called to Lot A of the Truman Sports Complex about 5:20 p.m. Sunday on a disturbance. Witnesses told police the Jeep owner had returned to his vehicle with his son, who is about 10 years old, when they realized a stranger was inside. The boy summoned help from several tail-gaters and they engaged in a struggle with Van Winkle, who had been sitting in the Jeep. Van Winkle collapsed and later died at a hospital.

Police did not say how Van Winkle died, but they said his body bore no signs of obvious injury.

Officers arrested three men shortly after the death, but they had to track down the fourth man who was arrested. Police searched one man’s home in Independence on Monday.

Detectives released three of the men Monday night and the fourth man Tuesday morning, pending further investigation.

I'm not saying Lot A is bad, but dudes living around Troost and the Paseo don't go to Lot A.

I was in lot A for the Raiders game and saw 3 fights break out and a couple of other situations that almost escalated to a fight.

But then again, it was the Raider game, which I assume has a higher rate of incidents.

The parking lot guys were all messed up for the Raider game. I ended up parking way on the southeast side. Usually I'm in Lot G or H on the west side. It was a giant mess. After the game going back to the car I saw this chick in Chiefs gear totally kick this drunk guy in a Raiders jersey's ass outside a porta potty. She clocked him. He went down and his friend has to scrape him up off the asphalt and drag him to their car. Whatever he said to that chick was the secret word, that's for sure.

Death has been ruled a homicide. No word if any charges will be filed or on cause of death. The 4 detained were not related to the vehicle at all, but bystanders.
