@ChrisCotillo: Teams looking for INF help are pursuing Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong, sources tell SBN. Rival exec with interest: "They want a lot for him." |

Don't get it. The guy is a marginal upgrade to Merrifield at best, for KC. And Merrifield is really just a replacement type. You're talking about a guy with a .248/.309/.370 slash line over 1300 ABs, who has great range but inconsistent defensive numbers. Feel pretty comfortable that's a reasonable floor for Merrifield, but with more consistent D. Wong still has some upside and you could dream, I guess, of a .280/.330/.450 hitter with above average d and 20 SB. But he hasn't proven he is that guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I hate to see these players go to different teams. At least they brought a title to KC.

But the friggen midget thinks he's a home run hitter. The guy entered last spring having made a bet with Randal Grichuk that he'd hit more HRs than him. Now Grichuk has a lot of flaws but his exit velocity is among the best in all of major league baseball. When that man hits a ball, it ****ing stays hit. So Kolten Wong coming into camp thinking he's going to out-homer THAT guy would be akin to Christian Yelich making that same bet with Giancarlo Stanton - you're just the wrong kind of player to be trying to do that. It shows where the kid's head was at. Oh....and 'where Wong's head is at' also varies from day to day and pitch to pitch. But if you manage to actually locate his head, you can pretty well assure yourself that Wong will actually be buried in it. The talent to be a 3-4 WAR player but nowhere near the mental fortitude to manage it. I don't see any real trade value there.

That'd be a salary dump, period. They should sell everyone if that's the case

I know GMDM knows what he is doing, but this "trade pieces to help us now and in the future" reminds me of Baird trading Carlos Beltran to get MLB-ready C, 3B, and P. Focusing too much on a specific need and not just getting talent.

Believe the full list in that rumor is Rosenthal, Wong, Peralta, Bader, plus some prospects. I still don't like it unless those prospects are pretty significant. Peralta and Escobar is basically a wash. Take those two out, and you're basically trading Davis and Cain for a fourth outfielder, a slightly better - maybe- version of Merrifield, a younger reliever, and "prospects." Would need Sierra and Flaherty and maybe Weaver at that point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd think KC would be sensitive trading with STL anyway. Esp giving them AS caliber players so they can win, while we rebuild. Obv Dayton has unlimited political capital to do whatever the **** he wants at this point - but still.

No 1 prospect in baseball, with Mike Trout offensive upside at 2B? Yeah. Pretty decent. Kopech is also a nice piece. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wonder if that makes the Nationals a little more desperate to make a move for Davis.

I'm not as big of a Moncada believer as others are. I like Kopech more, but he has already had some issues in the minor's that hopefully, he's come to learn from. Either way, very high ceilings for both.
