I'm interested to see him play. I think that athletic sideline to sideline LB'er in the middle of the defense is of utmost importance in today's NFL. The Chiefs haven't tried to find one in the draft early in a while, so it was a welcome addition for me.

Yup

Gay is pretty much another safety in a LB’s body. He can blitz, he can cover RB’s and he can cover TE’s. He’s a 3 down LB that’s a Swiss Army knife.

It’s going to be amazing having this guy in the middle of the field with Matheiu. We could have another DJ on our hands which would put this defense firmly in the top 10.

I loved DJ, so nothing negative meant here, but he always seemed a little bit more....finesse? I dunno if thats the right word there, laid back?

I would kind of like a fire breather in there.

I think you’re referring to his demeanor, especially when he gave interviews. He was a fun loving dude who absolutely loved football so I definitely see how he could be labeled as ‘laid back’. He wasn’t a “dog” as Terez Paylor would like to say. All that aside, DJ wasn’t afraid to lay the wood and would flat out deck running backs when he shot the gaps. I remember when he plastered Jamaal Charles in the freaking pro bowl. I love linebackers with the combination of speed and thumping ability and I believe Gay provides that rare trait we’ve been salivating for since DJ left. If you just go down the list of linebackers we’ve had on this team it’s almost as bad as the list of quarterbacks we had before Smith and Mahomes and, given that history, I was beginning to think we just didn’t value the position enough to invest high draft picks.

That stands to reason considering how little he actually played in college but pretty much every expert said his success at the next level would depend on how well he developed his football IQ. He's an athletic specimen that needs to polish the mental side of his game.

I wasn't at all insinuating learning the playbook would be difficult for him. I was more saying that the sooner he learns the playbook, the sooner he can make it rote and focus on the stuff above and beyond the playbook, aka the stuff the experts said he struggles with. Given his athleticism, he could be really special if he gets the rest of it down.
I’m not remotely worried about Gay. The guy absolutely will be a stud.

That being said, your first paragraph is on the money. And in an interview a week ago, Hitchens said the D’s nickname for Gay was ‘turbo,’ so it does imply that he’s flying all over the place full throttle but not necessarily breaking it down like a veteran just yet.

It’ll come. Gay is absolutely the least of my worries.

Yeah, I'm not worried about him either. In fact, my first comment on the subject was that the speed at which he's picking things up is great news because it means he might be a stud sooner rather than later.

Yeah. He certainly moves around easy enough. If he can play not think, he’ll be fine.

Robinson having a really good camp so that’s good to hear. Sneed getting some run woth the first team d at corner? Did I read that right?

After reading Taylor’s last article about Reid and Mahomes, man. With the weird offseason and new coaches around the league the chiefs are at such an advantage. If they stay healthy
Obviously caveats, but Mahomes could repeat or better his 2018 year. If could just be weekly massacres
