Ranked No. 26 in the ESPN 100, Dotson is one of the best point guards in the country. He averaged 18.8 points and 2.6 steals for Team Charlotte on the Under Armour Association circuit. Dotson is very quick with the ball in his hands and loves to attack the rim off the dribble.

Dotson is the third top-35 prospect to commit to Kansas in the 2018 class, following power forward Silvio De Sousa (No. 28) and center David McCormack (No. 33). Bill Self also has high-level transfers Charlie Moore (California) and Dedric and K.J. Lawson (Memphis) sitting out the 2017-18 season.

Sure, there was just a discussion about this. Everyone agreed that is Self's SOP.

This would be a totally different situation though. DeSousa looked lost for the first month on the court. So he only has 3 months being with this team, practicing with guys who have been together for years. As far as we know, he only recently proved he was clearly a better option than another player.

if a player shows they are indeed one of the top PG’s in the nation during the summer practices and exhibition games, and Self sits him on the bench over Vick, it’s going to hurt future teams and recruiting.

Self cares what they do at KU. If they want to start, they'll prove it when they get on campus. He's never started a freshman simply because of some ranking.

I’d argue he did with Selby. That guy was hot garbage. But on the whole you’re right.

You've thrown out ranking as a qualifier as to how good they are and never said that they had proved they were better.... At KU.

If whatever freshman player comes in and proves that he's better than whatever other player, in Self's system, they'll play. Some, but not many, have done that over his tenure with KU.

Again, he's always gone with experience over youth talent. Sometimes even when the younger more talented player is playing at the same level as the experienced player.

Bill Self's SOP is to play guys who give him the best chance to win. If the raw talent is so elite that it transcends being ****ing clueless on defense, Bill Self will start that player.

It's rare, but it's happened.

Outside of Grimes, and Langford if he comes, I don't think the incoming recruits have enough raw talent.

My other point was that, as far as I know (and I could be wrong), Vick and Dotson play completely different positions.

Selby was great in his first few games. He had that minor injury that seemed to entirely change his season though. By the end of the year, he wasn’t starting. Taylor, Reed, and Morningstar became the starting backcourt.
