Star Trek: The Next Generation Reboot With Patrick Stewart Reportedly in Development Rumors of the Picard-centric reboot come amid Alex Kurtzman extending his CBS contract for a planned expansion of the Star Trek TV universe. According to a THR article, there are unconfirmed rumors that CBS TV Studios is developing a Star Trek reboot starring Patrick Stewart in which he would reprise his The Next Generation role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard. According to THR's sources, Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman are attached to the potential reboot. Not only is this an unconfirmed project, but THR's sources also say that the deal is far from complete and might not happen. Still, this would be huge news for Star Trek fandom—however you might feel about a Picard-centric reboot. The rumors of the Picard reboot come amidst Kurtzman renewing his overall deal with CBS Television Studios, extending his contract by five years. This will keep him in partnership with the studio through 2023, for a reported $5 million per year. Kurtzman was recently made sole showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery following the dismissal of previous co-showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg who left amidst reports of bullying behavior in the writers room. Goldsman, who served as an executive producer on Season 1 of Discovery, also left the show, reportedly due to a clash with the writing staff in terms of management style and personality, so it's interesting that he is still attached to the potential Picard-centric reboot. In addition to his work on Star Trek: Discovery, Kurtzman's extended deal with CBS Television Studios will include an expansion of the Star Trek franchise on the small screen, including the development of new series, miniseries, and other content, including animation. While this generally seems like good news for the Star Trek universe, it may also be disappointing, depending on what kind of Star Trek fan you are. While the move represents a reinvestment in the Star Trek TV universe, Kurtzman is not known for critical success. Previously, he has co-written the scripts for Transformers, Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. More recently, he directed and co-wrote The Mummy. Not exactly the kind of nuanced science fiction writing Star Trek has, at its best, historically represented. More news on the expanded Star Trek TV universe as we hear it. Spoiler!
I stopped the video when I first saw this go by just to make sure I was seeing what I thought I saw. |

It would be kind of funny if they had Spiner come in mainly to do Lore and had him do a Data flashback just to provide a cover for why he was part of the production.

We WERE the Borg.
So what is the "greater evil" from 200K years ago? And have those entities ascended to something more by now? That's where my interest is at the moment. |

When the crew was talking they likened it to being approached by a more advanced civilization after discovering warp drive. Combining that and the Admonition would mean that there is a civilization or group of civilizations of AI, aware of us and waiting to do as they will. This could be where Q comes in to 'help' Picard negotiate with that political entity.

I'm forcing myself to suffer through them, yes. This show is ****ing garbage. It is worse than ENT and possibly worse than DSC. This needs to be the only season, but sadly it isn't. Also Alex Kurtzman is a shitty clone of JJ Abrams and they both need to stay the **** away from television, or more specifically they need to stay away from storytelling in all mediums.

"My father had me, but he also made Data, and he never let me forget it."
And Brent Spiner just returned as Lore after all. I'm assuming that reveal happens next week. |

I feel like they slow balled the episode. It played like filler. That wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't just done that with the visit to Riker and Troi - and that episode was tighter than this one. Off the top of my head when the group of them came to the android settlement for the first time they actually did a dissolve featuring a reaction shot from every single member of the crew before pulling back to a group shot of them walking up. It's like they took every bit of film they had and tried to dump it in to make a two part season finale. The whole episode was sloppy.

There were a couple of cringe scenes with Stewart in there. The "I love you" scene should have been cut.
They definitely tried to jam every minute of footage in there they could. Anyway, still enjoyed it. Something doesn't add up, though...

There were a few other cringe scenes (like Rios/Agnes). I actually thought the past 3 episodes before this one were enjoyable and more than fine (with episode 6 being quite good). For me, last night's wasn't good (for a lot of reasons) and I hope it's because they essentially tried to make what should have been a one hour episode into a 2 part finale. We'll see if they stick the landing to all of this.

Saw some Trekkies whining we haven't seen a single starfleet ship.
I'm gonna guess that ends pretty quick in the finale judging by the state of things.

This was the episode where the part of me that really wants to like this show was finally defeated by the part that knows it sucks.
