We don't HAVE to take an EDGE in round 1, because the depth in this class AND the amount of Spags types in this draft specifically.

Also, Quentin Johnston at 31 would hardly be a need pick. That's pretty silly.
We also don’t HAVE to take a WR rd 1, especially in a year where none of these guys are clear unquestioned number 1 WR’s.

This WR class feels like a bunch of nice contributors. Just don’t think they value that in the first rd, especially with every defense playing cover 2 as the base defense to cut off the deep play.

Not when you factor in opportunity cost.

DL runs deeeeeep in this draft and at 31 there's an excellent chance that you're looking at someone who's only marginally better than the person there at 63.

The board will reveal itself, though. I'd be surprised if there isn't someone I definitively want over the remaining options by the time we pick. When we were up at 30 last year, there was no question for me - I wanted Karlaftis.

We'd spent literally months talking ourselves into the reasonableness of taking a few OL, Ebiketie, Mafe, a pair of ****ing safeties, WRs that went all the way to Moore, some were even fine with Sam Williams, Travis Jones, Nakobe Dean, DeMarvin Leal, etc....

But when it came time to make the pick it was, to me, obvious who that pick should be and it was the pick KC made.

I think it happens again here. There will be a person at a position we need who's a standout over the available alternatives while a couple other defensible picks at positions of need will have enough depth to wait on into the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Maybe it's Anton Harrison or maybe it's Myles Murphy. Maybe it's Zay Flowers or Quentin Johnson or hell, Calijah Kancey.

There will be 'the guy'. I think it's wrongheaded to say there's any one obvious position group that we'll hit.

At 31 you are never going to get a dude with no questions, we aren't drafting 7th anymore.

Tbh, even if Hyatt is available at 31, I'll be mad if we take him. I want our 1st rd pic to be OT or DL depending who is available. There are some real solid receivers still going in to the middle rounds and I think some interespecting WR prospects even in late rounds.

I never said we have to take a WR in round 1. I'm probably out after the top 4 are off the board.

See the difference?

The DL prospects are better in the mid rounds....

You're a better team if you pull off Quentin Johnston and Derrick Hall than you are if you go Will McDonald and AT Perry...

Exactly.

To say that the 'value' is best at DL in the 1st gives a very very narrow read of value.

Because if the mid-round DL prospects are substantially better than the mid-round WR value, then the marginal 'value' in taking a DL over a WR in 1 falls apart by round 3.

It's just way to strict an outlook.

The only way it makes sense is if they decide you know what we want Mazi Smith and Derrick Hall and well then they're saying **** WR.

And if they were to go DT first I'll have a slight concern for Chris Jones future.

I just wish the WR class was better since it's such a need.

Hyatt is the one of the fastest guys and his 4.4 speed is...fine.

The fastest WR in this draft is Trey Palmer which is slower than MVS AND he can't run routes worth a shit

I would love to get Flowers but 4.42 is just okay. Hardman is a lot faster.

Flowers is fast in his breaks though. He'll be gone unless we trade up

Also, don't care that Hyatt only ran a 4.4. It's all on tape against the SEC.
