Yeah, but who promised us he'd be a great tackler? Skins fans? PFF? Twitter? Chiefs fans who have watched him in college and the pros? Maybe he's a great tackler for a CB, or just a good one for a CB. The point is, I don't know where we got those expectations for him nailing every tackle. It might be that 50/50 is actually what he can do.

Some of it might be that we associated "effort in tackling" with good tackling. When Peters avoids contact, people get upset about it, so when we got a CB who at least attempts to tackle every down and every play, I think people associated "attempts to tackle every play" with "WILL tackle every play."

EDIT: Just now saw your response to DJ's Left Nut

I'll have to watch more closely. Let's be fair - for most CBs, the way to get a guy down IS to go for his legs. Ron Parker is a safety obviously but Parker's problem is how often he goes high and tries to rock guys, only to bounce off and watch them keep running.

When he's trapped in space against a guy, going may well be the smart play. When a RB has a head of steam, it almost certainly is. But I'll watch him more closely to see if he looks to be avoiding contact the same way Peters was.

'Willing' /= 'goes high'. It just means he's going to go in there and actually try to make the stop. For a guy that size, the best way to make that stop is generally going low. But maybe I'm wrong and he's just pussing out rather than hitting low as a technique.

I often find Ragland to be a victim of misreads especially in zone coverages.

In fact, the same thing can be said for Hitchens as well. Our inside linebackers suck at reads

Ragland looks like a guy who has a knee that is bothering him and he is a horrible coverage backer.

Until O'Daniel can get up to speed him playing on passing downs is going to be a problem.

I really thought O'Daniel was going to carve himself a nice role on this team because of his ability to defend the pass better than the linebackers we currently have but I haven't heard a sniff in regards to his development.

I brought this up two weeks ago....but how often does Reid/Sutton throw rookies in there? 1st round picks....sure. They're supposed to be able to start right away. But you're talking about a 3rd round pick who has to learn the playbook and be able to diagnose shit like a veteran.

When you miss over half of training camp as a rookie you won’t see the field for awhile.
