Report: Chiefs leaning towards franchise tagging Sneed

Multiple sources tell me the Chiefs are trending toward using the franchise tag on star corner L'Jarius Sneed.

I'm told while nothing is 100 percent at this stage, the likelihood of Sneed being tagged is "75-80 percent."

Feels like Jones and Sneed are gone. Sneed wants to reset the market and we won't do it. Jones has had a year to get a contract done but neither side will budge on the price. We have an expensive QB and are not in the kill the cap business anymore with making players highest paid. They tried to make Jones the highest paid DT last summer not named Donald and it wasn't enough then and apparently isn't enough now.

I feel like Jones made himself very very clear sitting in the stands watching us lose week 1, that $$$ is what matters to this dude, drunken parade bloviating aside, I think he's headed for the bag. 3 rings right now, last crack at the huge money, it just makes too much sense. He can play out his career as Tyreek Hill will do, enjoying a massive payday, and watching the Chiefs win superbowls without him.

If he leaves, you certainly pay Sneed to keep the best tandem CB duo together to go for the 3peat. Spags loves to get after people and having lockdown corners allows him to crank up the heat at will. Sneed has earned every dime of the contract he's after, hope he gets it here, but zero hard feelings if he has to leave. Dude was awesome and a 4th rounder to boot.

As the Chiefs continue to win, especially that rookie class last year, it's gonna be hard to retain them because they've got the hardware now. Twice.

It'll be all about the bag when their deals expire.

I dont know how people dont see the win win here. Worst case (sort of actual best case) you sign jones and Sneed plays on the tag.

A nearly 20 mil. tag in which Sneed almost assuredly holds out and screws up other plans Veach has isn’t ideal…

Just deal him ASAP and get on with it.

Little chance of FAU replacing Jones. If Jones leaves, the Chiefs are going to have to sign one of Christian Wilkinson or Madabuike.

No if Jones leaves you pivot. You build with whats available. For refrence see the Tyreek Hill trade. You will never replace and all pro 1 for 1. You use the resources you have to build the best team with whats available.

if no deal is made Sneed has to be moved before free agency otherwise we can't fill any holes on the roster.

He wants to get paid…his comments after the season said it all.

He knows this is his chance to get the big contract…he’d be 28 after this season with a knee that’s a ticking time bomb, this is the time to get paid.

Hopefully Jones doesn't drag this out too long, for if he leaves they will absolutely have to sign free agent DTs. Not big name ones, but you can't rely on just the draft to get day 1 starters at that position, not at where they are drafting.
