One big reason I can see us making a deal is if Andy feels like it’s these next few years or never. Given his age, no year is guaranteed beyond the next couple, if that. He may want to give it a swing for the fences soon.

The thing is, we’ll have cap room after this year and we need to sign some good defensive players anyway. This just gets us ahead in the market for Collins before he would hit free agency. I mean, he would be one of my top FA choices this offseason anyway. This is a no brainer in my book.

I will say, I’d rather just trade for and sign Collins than to sign Thomas as a FA if that’s their plan. At least he’s younger. |

Oh I completely agree. He’s a young stud that will be around for a long time.

Hopefully they make the team better with a trade but I'm sure it isn't helping matters that everyone knows we have the last pick of every round the next ten years...

And if they know they're moving on from Berry maybe they can swing it in a way where his pay will go to whoever they add, if anyone...

I love Eric Berry as a player. I think he is truly great in ways you can't quantify.
As this point, the contract is an albatross, and one we are stuck with for at least next season. |

They aren't giving up a big package for Collins with having to give him a contract as well.
That's usually 2nd round pick territory. |
