My gut says no, we wouldn't be here.
The scenario supposes that Sutton would still be DC, which he probably would after a SB win. "You don't fix what ain't broke," would be in effect. So Frank Clark probably isn't here, maybe not HB either. No Suggs or Pennel. KPass still isn't playing, and probably not Ragland either. Then Hill goes out in week 1, along with Fisher. Along the way we lose Wylie, Rankin for the season, Okafor, Ogbah, Watkins for a couple weeks, Shady gets is dinged for a few weeks. Pat goes down in week 6. Chris Jones is out for a few weeks. Our defense would've been the POS that is was last year, and instead of losing 4 games maybe we lose 5. Or 6. Or even 7. No 2nd seed, no HFA, have to play in the WC probably. Or maybe we don't make it at all. Spags, House Daly, Brett Veach, Frank Clark, Tyrann Mathieu, Mike Pennel, and Chavarius Ward are why we are here now. Well, and Matt "Moonlight" Moore just going all John Elway for us for three games. |

Agreed, a 32nd ranked defense is still a 32nd ranked defense. He'd still be fired. In fact we should hire him back just so we can fire him again the next day to show him how bad he sux!

We would have won the superbowl, so nobody would really be too bent about not making it back under the injury circumstances.
Gurley was a shell of himself. That offense could not hang with us a second time. Jesus Christ, we turned the ball over 5 times, one of them for 6, still put up 51 points and only lost by 3. Those ****ers were dead on arrival if KC made it to the superbowl. Theres no way we turn it over 5 times again, one for a score.

This is a nice little exercise in revisionist what-ifs
I feel like if Bobs defense didn’t let us down against the Patriots, it would’ve let us down against LA... again McVay would’ve just diced him up again, and then the whole chain of events that led us to this year might’ve looked quite different All that matters though is this season This is apparently how it was supposed to happen Saint Patrick has fully mastered Reid’s system This new D has fire and swagger in spades Last year happened, but this year is HAPPENING |

Okay, let's redirect with a truly interesting question.
I saw a video interview of Bobby Bell after the AFCCG. He was asked if he thought his '69 Chiefs' defense could stop the '19 Chiefs' offense with Mahomes. Bell got a blank look on his face, like he didn't know what to say and was silent for a couple of seconds. The interviewer jumped in and said (I paraphrase): "Hell yes, you could. That defense had 6 Hall of Famers on it!" Then it cut away, with Bell still staring blankly, like he didn't know what to say. That was an all-time defense, but I gotta think the speed of 19's offense and the play calling of today would be the difference. Gotta go with Mahomes and Reid.

Maybe if we kept Sutton Patrick would have had to have another 50TD/5000yd MVP season to get back to the Super Bowl, that would have been fun!

Sutton is on the Mount Rushmore of incompetent coaches.
