Hilarious part is that Wii U is still 300, same as the PS4 slim now. You think they'd knock off 100 at this point.

I'll buy because I want Zelda, Super Mario, Mariokart, Smash Bros, and Mario Party.
I do notice however the hand-held *Joy-Con* controllers (I guess that's what they're called anyway) have a different configuration R vs L. I just wonder which one is going to feel more comfortable in the hand. Looks like the L would be...the R on the other hand (and it's because it has to be this way in order for the entire hand held gaming device to work but...) the joystick is way over in the middle of the controller stick and its buttons are off to far right. That wouldn't seem comfortable to me but we'll see I guess.

Nintendo will always sell me on a new console that launches with a new Zelda game. Takes the best parts of the Wii U, but you know its going to be underpowered and the battery is going to be lackluster without a snap on battery pack.

Apparently the small controllers on the sides can be each used by one player, though I feel like my hands would cramp up. If you have smaller hands, it might okay.

I have to tip my hand on their new implementation and execution.
I've always thought Nintendo were hands down the masters of gameplay. They aren't going to compete as just another console or by an arms race for graphics and the rest. Not if they want to stay in business. Of course, they can't be so behind in graphics and visual detail that it looks only slightly better than the n64. This has some definitely potential. But it is going to be tricky to carve out a niche market and their original content is going to have to be epic to drive it's success.

The problem they have been running into is cross compatibility with 3rd party companies. Whe companies make games like Battlefield 1 that can't run reliable on the Nintendo products, but will on the other two, they stop making them for Nintendo.

From what I've heard, porting issues should be way less a problem. No one is going to expect they are neck and neck with the other 2, but the titles have to be available and in the same ballpark. Plenty of people would sacrifice some visual detail as long as popular titles are still released on the console in exchange for being able to also play all of Nintendo's original content.

The lack of hit titles available across other platforms due to the hardware was a handicap. Nintendo foolishly dismissed that handicap and again Nintendo tried to introduce another novel new console. The WiiU was dead on launch because the features that it offered that were unique weren't going to compensate for the lesser hardware. They don't have to be the most powerful machine, but it can't be a peashooter going up against machine guns. If they have comparable specs to offer the same titles otherwise they have tons of console exclusives in their portfolio to be an attractive option. Nintendo has a great cache of titles exclusive to them to draw in buyers. The key is getting more people who don't own multiple platforms to pick Nintendo and the less they have to make tradeoffs the easier it is for them to make their offering that more attractive and not feeling like a tradeoff outside of the exclusives every platform has which Nintendo has probably the greatest offering.

I think their best move would of been to pare down a system and put out a very affordable, family friendly console with a line up of fun games. They force gimmicks that jack up the console cost and impairs their ability to get significant 3rd party support. |
