Yup. And these trades are always worked out during the combine. Floating the possible trade this early is obviously trying to “fish with a net” and get as many bidders calling, as possible.

It’s an early tactic to yield the highest return.

With Sneeds versatility, this will likely become a bidding war and I bet we get more than most here think for him. He would vastly improve any secondary in the nfl.

After winning the SB I have finally become one of those who will trust Veach pretty much no matter what. Personally it wouldn’t crush me to lose both Jones and Sneed.

There was a time where you couldn’t imagine Tyreek Hill not being on the team and yet they made it work. Obviously i really don’t want to give up good players but I think Sneed getting paid somewhere else isn’t end of the world. I also think Jones leaving although sad wouldn’t be a complete shocker. He’s older.

I think getting a good offensive piece is worth losing one of the two

If they can’t make Jones work they might get a deal done with Snead but if I was abetting man I think we lose both , not having Jones pressure with a loss at the back end and losing gay and mayb tranquil, Omenihu missing some time , losing Dana and maybe Reid , ouch for those who didn’t enjoy watching an elite defense you might get your wish next year .

Having the best part of cover corners in the game helped bring us a Lombardi as much as having a game wrecking defensive tackle. Is a 2nd round pick and $18 mil in cap space more valuable? I personally don’t believe so.
The Tyreek trade and its aftermath has changed everything though.

With Mahomes at QB, KC has to play by a different set of rules to win Lombardis.

They don’t need the most explosive WR anyone has ever seen play to win a SB. Patrick can do it with and without him.

They don’t need a CB who is capable of locking down the league’s best receivers. They can win with and without that type of player.

With Mahomes, the thing that is proving true over time is you need a good, deep, well rounded team that can play complementary football when it’s needed under the umbrella of good coaching. Adding more good players on rookie contracts is only going to extend the window further. It’s when you start trying to pay everyone and they get older and more injured, while you also fight an uphill battle of late and limited draft picks — that is when you dig yourself a hole that not even Mahomes might be able to dig you out of.

It’s really hard now for Veach to get blue chip players in the draft with how late we pick. But the year we trade Hill? Gets him the extra picks needed to find Trent McDuffie. Blue chip back in the saddle on the cheap. Best non-QB asset in the whole sport.

Spot on pugs.

You either have money or you have picks. A lot of our money is going to Mahomes in terms of player asset allocation. Roughly 17% of the cap on just one guy.

You either get a star QB on a rookie contract to build a great team or you have a highly paid star QB that requires a way to get cheap outs standing talent aka the draft.

2022 is a lesson we need to follow every few years. Drafting a surplus of talent is the best problem to have. Obviously you can't pay everyone so trade the luxury pieces for picks and do it all over again.

Serious question -- I don't have a heavy football background.

Why wouldn't Sneed fit in pretty much every defense? His biggest value appears to be going one-on-one with the opponent's top receiver. Can't that skill be utilized by pretty much every defense?

Good Q. It’s because his game relies on being allowed to be extremely physical and press at the line of scrimmage.

In KC, we play a lot of 2-deep coverages which means even if Sneed missed a WR with his jam, he’d typically have help behind him.

Some defenses don’t allow their corners to play physical press often. Usually it’s gonna be the cover-3 heavy defenses that don’t provide safety help over top often and rely on the CBs to keep things in front of them. A lot of the Seattle defensive disciples fit that category.

Mel Kipers latest mock. If Pickens is really a distraction, let’s send Sneed & MVS for Pickens, we can get Pickens to mature. I’m sure Balto can work out a better trade scenario though lol.
