Oh, I will still listen to RATM every now and then unprompted.

Their stuff from Woodstock 99 is probably the coolest live footage I've seen.

But yes that was me growing up, Korn Limp Bizkit etc.

Yet you still find absolute innovators in the genre like Periphery and Animals As Leaders. Or CP's own Molitoth, who posts his awesome stuff in our media subforum.
I'm with you on finding innovation. I think Periphery is a bit like Veil of Maya but still interesting and definitely good.

As for rap... man... I hate ghetto rap. Gimme some silky Snoop shit all day long but please... the ghetto shit is so not my thing.

I don’t listen to him, but it definitely seems that as you get older your start to appreciate different genres and eras of music more. Growing up I didn’t like bands like the Stones, Beatles and the Who because it was “old people” music. I wanted everything fast, hard and loud when I was growing up. Now it’s anything from Slayer to Bob Marley depending on the day.

I caught Korn, Limp Bizkit, Primus, Staind, and Filter at Family Values Tour back in 99 in Minneapolis... Was lit. Korn was my favorite band back then. Still dope but not as heavy.

Rage Against the Machine was probably one of the most innovative, politically- driven, lyrical bands ever. Loved them.

For me that'd be bands like Pink Floyd, Steve Miller Band, Dire Straights, The Eagles etc.

My dad played the shit out of that stuff when i was a kid and i hated it. I appreciate it a lot more now, and those bands are mixed in with the rest of my classic rock collection.

But to be fair, my dad would be high on drugs bumping "Money" at 1am while my 11 year old self was trying to sleep.

I think anyone would learn to hate those bands under those conditions.
