I think this minimizes the greatness of Mahomes. Mahomes doesn’t need a true #1 receiver to win a/some Super Bowls. Brady didn’t either when with the Patriots. But who else doesn’t or didn’t though?

You, TEX, and MahomesMagic have had the field for the last 2 years and you’re 0-2. GTFO with this “are you trusting Veach” nonsense.

I agree totally he is no wilting flower. Rice is just as competitive as Mahomes and when this happened the 2nd time Mahomes missing him wide open forcing the throw in the corner to Kelce in which he was totally covered Rice called him out.

Good for him. Mahomes ain't perfect and can improve contrary to most of you CPers.

Define possession WR.

Because Adonai is going to catch the ball down the field more than Rashee Rice.

Is Rice a "possession WR"?

Mahomes has won 0 zero SB's without a HOF WR.

The first 1 he had 2 HOF weapons and the last 2 he had 1 in Kelce.

Also, the offense when Kelce was looking old last year sputtered to mediocrity during the regular season, even with the emergence of Rashee Rice.

I don't get why mediocre is the goal now.

The idea is to draft the next Justin Jefferson and have him on a rookie contract. Hell we already have a pretty good one in Rice.

If you just read CP in a vacuum, you'd think we're finishing 7-10 every year according to some of these guys. I mean, you wouldn't want to waste Mahomes ' prime or anything.

But Pat 'does have' an elite TE. So does Pat need at least one elite offensive player beside himself whether it is a TE, WR, or RB?? Or do they just need to be good and Pat does the rest??

You are 1 for 1 in promoting shitty offense and punting.

You add Rice, for instance, to this mix and it's not a big deal. He's not going to think he should be getting the ball on 3rd down instead of Kelce. The pecking order has been established by sweat equity if nothing else.

Adding Jefferson is a different creature. Are you going to see some pushback? Could that be why so many of the 'super teams' just don't work out? Add a QB to the room and I think everyone falls in line behind him. He's the quarterback and that's the way football works.

Or maybe if you add someone like Hill or Brown to a vacuum (there were no studs in place in Philly or Miami when he got there) you can get away with it.

But in KC we have a first ballot HoFer and an emerging WR talent who's won a championship as the primary WR on this squad. There's going to be some jockeying there. Right, wrong or otherwise, I don't think it's going to be seamless kumbayah here.

I think the Chiefs need to continue to develop in-house. Take care of your own guys when you can because they're established in the culture and understand the ropes. Spend some money on some ring-chasers or secondary options. Keep your pick capital as intact as possible to add 'Dudes' to the room wherever you can.

But I think shortcuts and fast infusions of premium talents (especially high ego positions like WR) are a little more complicated than we realize. They can upset the balance of a team and I think that's a lot more common than we realize.

A guy like Aiyuk is the kind of 'star' I'd want to add. Someone that's going to come in with stud ability but not the reputation or the ego just yet. Someone who can PROVE his way into that role instead of expect it. Someone who's likely going to dovetail well into the existing power structure.

I'd be pretty reluctant to hand-waive the ego side of this.
Agree with everything that you said except this part. Aiyuk is the kind of "star" that gets absolutely clowned and shut down in the biggest game. I'd rather keep the guys clowning him than lose them (and trade capital) to acquire him.

The Kelce Retirement Plan worry is one of the weirder narratives around here... and we worry about some stupid shit.

The roster is limited most by the salary cap, not some magic Franchise TE button... despite Mahomes not needing the best receiver group in the league and it being a possible strategy on where money goes, they sure as hell would have kept Tyreek, too. Skyy wasn't a product of "well, we don't have to worry much about the receiver group so YOLO".. if they could have 3 WR1s and 2 franchise TEs, they'd already have all of it. They theoretically want every TE they draft to be the next Kelce, whether he's his replacement or traded for cool stuff.

Obviously, if Kelce retired tomorrow, they'd dedicate more time to scouting the position, but outside of that, there's really nothing to talk about.

The "plan" is to do exactly what you do for every other roster spot, find the best available person while considering the constraints. WTF it's a worry in every thread is beyond me (well, besides the italics above)...

What did the Ravens have to give up to draft Likely? A 4th rounder? I think I prefer that model of talent acquisition.

That's the kinda thing that ruins a dynasty. At that point you're going through what the Broncos are going through, which would make Patrick's life harder.

Trust your GM. Gain flexibility and keep drafting well
This team is deep and a quick way to stop being that is by throwing a bunch of picks at any non QB position.
