Let's not sugarcoat what he is and that's not a very good basketball player.

This is a guy who showed up last year and shot a ton of 3s in practice until Self read him the riot act and started making him run laps until he accepted his role: rebounder and garbage bucket guy. He's really taken to the role and Self and He get a lot of credit.
He's got a chance to become quite good if he improves his rebounding and extends his range to beyond the arc (which he kind of already has). He's been one of the best shot blockers in the country in his limited minutes.

Have we figured out why the **** Texas sucks at everything? 2 coaches who I'd consider home run hires and unlimited resources with acquiring talent didn't compete really in either sport. No reason Texas shouldn't threaten KU every year in basketball but they haven't even really competed with you guys since big nose took over.

Shaka Smart is not a home run hire.

He has done exactly ****all other than beating KU in a fluke game in the tournament a billion years ago.

He's a smarmy **** too. That doesn't help.

I don't think many college basketball savants liked the Shaka Smart hire. The hype? Yeah the hype was good. But Shaka is a gimmick. You really only want to run a gimmick style system when you can't get talent and for a mid major.

Well aside from making the final 4 with VC ****ing U he got them to the tournament 4 other times winning a game 2 other times. That's a pretty impressive resume and with the resources available no reason he shouldn't be able to accomplish that at Texas. He hasn't.

I miss the days of Texas playing second fiddle to KU. Those were always great games.

Shaka is a fraud. He rode a couple guys getting super hot from 3 one year to big money at Texas. Funny thing is he hadn't done squat at VCU other than that one year really.

Then he shows up at Texas and immediately kicks the bear mentioning he knows how to beat KU. Hows that turned out for him?

Oh yes, and I believe that Smart had zero conference titles while at VCU.

Bomba is top shelf. He would have looked great in a KU uniform. We would be a legitimate tourney championship contenders this year with him on our team.

Yeah, it was perhaps the must underrated rivalry in CBB for a while. That 24 point/23 rebound game by Collison will always stick out in my mind.

To me it was that Julian Wright 360 dunk in the big 12 championship game that always sticks out as a Tejas moment. I wish Julian could have played forever in college.
