RAPOPORT: Steve Spagnuolo, Dennis Allen, John Pagano names to watch at DC

Just heard on NFL Total Access.... FWIW. https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/...864004097?s=21

Allen, the Saints DC, is a free agent for those who may read that and wonder.

It could work out if he's paired with someone who pushes him to innovate. Unlike Rex, his scheme is probably a bit more adaptable.
"I don't think he's that bad" is exactly how some referred to Sutton.

If you want to ignore, his most recent resume, don't be shocked when it repeats itself here. Spags sucks.

I don't agree. If it was offense, yes, I think Andy wants a history.

Defense? I don't think he's married to his coaching tree. He wants to stay completely out of the defense.

And that's another thing - if Andy is so damn good at developing offensive schemes - why can't he help out with the defense?

I mean he has to know what kind of tendencies annoy him as an offensive play designer, what types of players he has to look out for, what types of schemes are hard to carve up.

That's how Elway said he picked players - and he did draft a pretty good defense.

It's not like Armageddon where some know how to be astronauts and the other know how to me miners. The two things are freaking inter-connected.

Macdonald is clearly the best candidate that is realistic. If we pull some ****ing bullshit like promoting from within or hiring a disastrous retread while a candidate like that is out there because of "familiarity", then I'd be pretty ****ing disappointed in Reid.

What connection? Then every coach in the NFL has a connection to each other. There's 6 degrees with all of them. He'd have the same connections to Rex then.

The whole comfort zone thing is nonsense. He hired Sutton, who wasn't apart of his coaching tree. He hasn't coached with Spags in almost 15 years.

Its also time for another reality check. When you’re losing going into the second half of a conference championship, run stats (on offense and defense) go out the ****ing window

Not ignoring his resume. Like I said, hire would be lukewarm. Just saying calling him terrible because of Bountygate and the McAdoo fiasco is a bit unfair. He had an excellent defense in 2016 until the entire locker room went into mutiny against McAdoo. Listening to his ex players, they'd run through a brick wall for him. I'm really intrigued at him in a co-coordinator or advisory role. If you got a lot of Spagnuolo's coaching and less of the scheme that might work nicely. Is that realistic? Who knows.
