When Kelce retires… and he’s 35 this October so that isn’t a distant scenario… what’s the plan to replace him as the alpha in the passing game?
The idea that Mahomes can still win despite shit WR’s has worked because of the presence of Kelce and the attention he draws from opposing defenses. Is the assumption that Rice is capable enough to ascend to that role as soon as 2025? Are you trusting Veach to draft a legit alpha WR or TE to replace Kelce? |

I think they can still 'go for it' this year while still keeping the long term in mind. I don't expect them to trade a bunch of draft picks for a #1 WR or anything like that. That's not gonna happen. About the worst thing they could do this off season that would have long term ramifications is signing Chris Jones to a long expensive contract into his mid 30's. I think they could get 2 more solid years out of him w/o having to worry. Beyond that, I would be pretty nervous. |

There's something to be said for organic growth on the roster when it comes to team chemistry.
You add Rice, for instance, to this mix and it's not a big deal. He's not going to think he should be getting the ball on 3rd down instead of Kelce. The pecking order has been established by sweat equity if nothing else. Adding Jefferson is a different creature. Are you going to see some pushback? Could that be why so many of the 'super teams' just don't work out? Add a QB to the room and I think everyone falls in line behind him. He's the quarterback and that's the way football works. Or maybe if you add someone like Hill or Brown to a vacuum (there were no studs in place in Philly or Miami when he got there) you can get away with it. But in KC we have a first ballot HoFer and an emerging WR talent who's won a championship as the primary WR on this squad. There's going to be some jockeying there. Right, wrong or otherwise, I don't think it's going to be seamless kumbayah here. I think the Chiefs need to continue to develop in-house. Take care of your own guys when you can because they're established in the culture and understand the ropes. Spend some money on some ring-chasers or secondary options. Keep your pick capital as intact as possible to add 'Dudes' to the room wherever you can. But I think shortcuts and fast infusions of premium talents (especially high ego positions like WR) are a little more complicated than we realize. They can upset the balance of a team and I think that's a lot more common than we realize. A guy like Aiyuk is the kind of 'star' I'd want to add. Someone that's going to come in with stud ability but not the reputation or the ego just yet. Someone who can PROVE his way into that role instead of expect it. Someone who's likely going to dovetail well into the existing power structure. I'd be pretty reluctant to hand-waive the ego side of this.

We are not getting Jefferson, and I'm fine with it.
Keep the core, draft smart. |

In recent memory has a team ever won a Super Bowl fresh off the heals of a trade for a superstar and top ten caliber player in the league? Is there any presedence for that?
We are back to back SB Champs. If you want a stud wide receiver mortgage some future draft capital and draft your own. No part of me wants to give up assets and draft capital only to turn around and give JJ the richest non-QB contract in the league. Just ZERO need to take that kind of gamble right now. If Mahomes was 38 years old and not 28 years old and only had a couple years left in the league? Different story IMO. |

I'm just not sure teh juice is worth the squeeze. Paying him that much after trading that much......there's just no way you get the value. Just keep chopping wood in the draft, take a shot at a FA here and there and move forward. Now if Brian Burns becomes available... |

Right. OBJ and Von Miller. At that stage in their careers dont think either were the superstar that JJ is currently but that is perhaps the best recent example of a team going all in and pulling it off. If I remember right OBJ was a free agent though and Von was maybe a 2nd rounder if I recall? Dont care enough to look it up.

Our team already has a championship roster, so we don’t need to do that. Just saying that the Rams were successful in doing so. |

One thing I see becoming dogma is having a #1 receiver on your team doesn’t win you a SB without an elite QB.
Mahomes proved this year that an elite QB doesn’t need a #1 receiver to win a SB.

Looks like a possession receiver and/or red zone threat. Not that any of that is bad. But I'd prefer a game breaker if one is available at 32.

I’d say Rice yelling at his QB at a crucial time in the game makes me think that he’s no wilting flower. Maybe even gets into your alpha category?
