Prospects will break your heart. It's likely those guys never become the players you're trading them for. If you can package them in a deal bringing back an established top or the rotation ace and a middle o the order gold glove third baseman, you do it.

Longoria is not going to okay a trade. He loves it here in St. Pete. He lives about 2 minutes from me. He's got a model girlfriend, big house on the water, big boat, starting a family, local endorsement deals. He is not going to give up that life to go to the Midwest.

Dodger fans are the worst. LA Chieffan just trolls whenever the Dodgers beat the Cards and then takes his sore vagina elsewhere when he can't troll the thread.

Local TV sports guy is reporting that the Cardinals and the Rays talks have progressed to a being serious discussions. Whatever that means.
He says the rumored deal is Price/Zobrist for Martinez/Taveras/Wong and a AA/AAA pitching prospect. The Rays and Cardinals have asked MLB about talking to Price's agent about a long term deal before the trade is finalized. Who knows if he even knows shit or being fed BS for whatever reason from someone in the Rays FO. Big grains of salt needed. Just thought I'd pass it along. Trading Price is a huge story down here.

You don't trade the #3 prospect in all of baseball for a 1/2 year rental of a #3 starter.

Honestly the worst part of that trade would be losing Wong.

If we were going to deal with them, I'd rather get Longoria. However, his "name" is such that the Cardinals would have to pay through the nose, although the positional fit would be ideal. The truth is that at this point, the rotation is nothing but question marks behind Wainwright and Lynn, and you don't want Lynn in a postseason series. Miller may yet emerge as a viable #2, but he's been a pretty significant disappointment, especially mentally. Wacha's shoulder issue is a serious issue, Martinez is basically a four inning can of nitroglycerin, and Kelly is a walking tightrope act every time out there. I just don't trust this team, especially with this offense, to do much this year. I'd rather they just stand pat and try and target a bat in FA.

No way they trade Longoria. He is as well established and loved in this town as any player in another town. There is no way in hell they could sell a trade without the motherlode of prospects like no other deal in MLB history. And he has a no trade clause.

I mention Longoria because Olney floated a half-assed rumor about the Cards targeting him.

Ya never know. He is well aware they are going to rebuild. Maybe he doesn't want to wait 3 years for the rebuild to come together. Maybe he would accept a trade to a winner. But man that would be a hard sell down here.

If you can get Price and Longoria it would be worth it IMO. Adding a CY Young wining ace along with Waino is just flat out nasty. Longoria's presence would allow Carpenter back to a position where his value is way higher. It would suck to lose Taveras but its not like the cupboard is bare with Piscotty waiting in the wings.

2006 - won 83 games. Lost 9 of our last 12 games going into the playoffs. 2011 - played like crap all year. Only way we made the playoffs was the Braves collapse. The 2004 and 2005 teams were the most talented teams in this era, IMHO. Just get to the tourney and hopefully you get hotter than the other teams.

so you guys wouldn't trade Colby Rasmus part II for James Shields, who is nicknamed "Big game" for a reason, and Greg Holland (arguably the best, at worst 2nd best) closer in the game who solidifies that spot on your team for at least the next 2 years?
You'd rather trade Wong and Taveras (and other assets) so you can get David Price? I'm sorry, I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever liked Ben Zobrist. I'd rather have Kolten Wong than Ben Zobrist. I'm not even saying Shields/Holland would ever be on the table because DM is a moron...but if he was, you have to part with Taveras because those two instantly solidify your team...and you still don't have to be done buying. Shit, you could probably still get David Price if you really wanted to part with Wong and a few other prospects or guys like Shelby Miller, Carlos Martinez and Trevor Rosenthal. I realize the Cards make the NLCS and World Series all the time so selling prospects to make runs is probably a little more illogical on your side of Missouri but ****. I'd take Shields/Holland over Price/Zobrist if it means I get to keep Wong + other assets. |
