As Simms pointed out...Spagnuolo implemented elements of the Titans play-off game. Ravens are 2-2 over their last 4...looks like there might be a blueprint forming. |

Here's another graph that shows QB win% as compared to the percentage of their yards that comes by rushing (their rushing, not the team's). Again, Lamar Jackson isn't shown but he's an extreme outlier on both axes with an 84% win percentage and 42 percent of his yards coming via the run. So he's an oddity and is unique so far among NFL quarterbacks, albeit with a very small sample size.
As we can see, the Super Bowls are won by the guys who rely on their arms far more than their legs. Russell Wilson is the big outlier here.

Ravens were also 2-2 last year and then ran off 12 wins in a row. Their schedule isn't the toughest in the world. I still expect them to get 12+ wins.

Everyone seems to get suckered in on these QB comparisons by looking at strictly their physical talent. I've said many times that the most important thing for a QB is his brain. A brilliant mind with average talent will most likely be better than a guy with the opposite traits.
Guys like Alex Smith win just as many games as the Dak's and Lamar's. But when you get all the above + the "IT" factor, you end up with the league killers. Russell, Aaron, Patrick, Tom. Big Ben is the only other QB playing today that has a shot at winning the SB. He defies the big brain theory but he substitutes situational knowledge for it and also has the "IT" factor. These 2 guys we're talking about in this thread only have the physical talent. I don't see them ever winning a SB. |

And while you can say that Spags provided a blueprint for stopping BAL, you actually have to have a front 4 that can generate a consistent rush. Not every team has the horses to do that. And even if a team has the talent, then they also have to be very disciplined. You watch what our guys did and how disciplined they were in their lanes all night; it's about as consistent as I've ever seen any front four play for 4 quarters. Ditto our LBs and safeties. They all played about as disciplined as I've ever seen any defense play outside of NE. So BAL will probably bulldoze through most of the rest of their games and end up right there with a 13-3 or 14-2 record. |

the smith comparison to Dak is pretty spot-on.
In the games I've watched Dak, he seems intent on not taking too many shots downfield, and only throwing high-percentage passes. Which is fine - and I'd still take that over a 5 year span than I would Lamar.......as Lamar is a running back, masquerading as a QB.

Powerful passing game, really good pass rush and a stout interior line (even if it is a stupid 3-4). And nobody is immune from the 'stupid loss' game. The Ravens lost to Cleveland last year. The Colts have an incredibly smart, well coached defense that could give them trouble, especially if Buckner and Houston are healthy. The Titans fisted 'em in the playoffs and BB always seems to come up with something for big games. I think they have 3 more losses on their schedule and could easily settle in at 12-4 or even 11-5. With the tiebreaker in hand, the Chiefs really are in the driver's seat here. They have a 5 game stretch from the end of October (Pitt, Indy, NE, TN, Pitt) that could easily see them losing 3 of those games. And we've NEVER seen leadership chops from Lamar - he's always been able to lead from in front. If they lose 2 of the first 3, it's not impossible to see them drop 4 of 5 in there. The 3 games before it and 5 games after it are cake, but again - everyone drops a dumb one.
