Canes are easy as shit to make though if you really want to DIY. Process is simple. Make a jig of some sort to bend a piece of wood around... Ez way is to take and cut the bottom end off of a small coffee can (about 2") and screw it down securely to a piece of wood. space pieces of wood about 1" away from that on both sides and screw it down to make your bending jig... then u just have to steam the wood.... ez home way is make a box that you can pipe steam in for an hour straight, ez way is with a teapot and a hose... I've attached a rough sketch... Edit: This is assuming you have cut the sapling, peeled it, and allowed it to air dry. |

While I dabble (the wife and I are finishing up restoring an old Hoosier cabinet), you all might like what my Dad does as his retirement gig.

I'm building in a small garage currently, but I am finishing sanding and I am about to stain a table for my printer.
http://oldbellamy.farm/content/AA/00...1/IMG_1640.jpg It's the first time I used a router to cut into table legs like this.. made a template and then it was fairly easy. http://oldbellamy.farm/content/AA/00...1/IMG_1636.jpg http://oldbellamy.farm/content/AA/00...1/IMG_1638.jpg Building a new garage/workshop on my farm property this year though.. which will have 25' x 30' dedicated workship and have enough other storage that my workshop shouldn't be too crowded. Looking forward to doing more woodworking there.

Yeah. The top is some spruce layered wood I bought.
One thing I have realized is I need a better and cheaper wood source for building furniture and cabinets with.

We are fortunate here in Missouri to have mills around even though the Chinese have been buying them up and exporting the wood back to China. Several of the guys in my golf league work at one of the more successful mills around here and the owner told me China is a real problem right now as China has a ban on cutting of their own forests. A couple years ago I bought 40 1x8x8' white oak boards for $225, not seasoned of course. Last year I bought 200 1x4x4' cedar boards for $270, once again not seasoned. About 10% of both has been waste. |

Any of you gentlemen ever build a computer desk?
Looking into building one and was curious if any of you had done it or had any suggestions |

Personally, I'd get a pocket hole jig to start with. Make it easy on yourself rather than jointing everything you don't see anyhow.

I haven't.. although I have actually been converting my desks to use this:
https://www.geekdesk.com/adjustable-...ing-desk-frame I just bought the frames and then used desk tops I already had. A bit expensive though.

Went together pretty cheap. It doesn’t look like a traditional desk but it was cheap and we have 60 acres worth of desk space. Dad cut the toe kicks off his cabinets but I left them of because I’m an ogre. |

I was curious about buying a couple of those cabinets and building off them from there. I might look into that a little more now
I have seen those geek desks before. I like the idea of being able to adjust the height of the desk but damn they do cost more than I thought |

Almost always old base cabinets in those stores that you can paint and repurpose for such things, plus your money goes to a good cause and you'll spend less than half of what you'll pay for new ones at a box store. |
