YOUNG AMERICANS
The USMNT was by far the youngest team to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, garnering valuable experience going through the rigors of World Cup qualifying. Through 14 qualifiers, the USA Starting XI came in at an average of 23.82, almost two years younger than the next closest team, Ghana at 25.67. Together, the other 31 participating teams averaged a Starting XI age of 27.5 through qualifying, nearly four full years older than the U.S. Sources say this is one of the youngest, but most talented teams the U.S. has ever fielded. While they may not win the world cup this year, they may garner the experience needed to make a serious run on home soil in the year 2026 when the World Cup comes back to North America.

I can see why a grieving family might jump to a conclusion under these circumstances but if he'd been sick for some time and had a worsening course, which is what he self-reported, those signs really don't point to foul play.

I agree with this. This guy was under deadline pressure and was sick apparently for some time beforehand. He apparently had limited sleep because of his deadlines and was literally in a foriegn country; there's stress around travel, stress around a new sleeping environment etc. He's close to 50 years of age.

He likely also didn't accept as to how sick he was: imagine thinking, writing, living the previous 4 years as a soccer pundit focused on these few weeks. He gets to the event he's been dreaming about and he gets sick, he wants to soldier on so he doesn't care about himself and it ends up killing him.

This is very sad but I don't see anything here in terms of a conspiracy: may he RIP.

Yes, but he tested negative for Corona, was seen in Qatar and given antibiotics and presumed to have bronchitis. Dude celebrated his birthday on Wednesday… Just freaky bizarre.

“He wasn’t sleeping well, and I asked him if he tried melatonin or anything like,” Scanlan said. “He said, ‘I just need to like relax for a bit.’”

According to two New York Times journalists who were present, medical personnel performed chest compressions and other treatment for about 20 minutes before Wahl was taken out of Lusail Iconic Stadium.

Wahl was in the midst of his eighth men’s World Cup, with an aggressive schedule of reporting stories and recording podcasts.

Wahl’s wife, Dr. Celine Gounder, also confirmed the death in a post on Twitter. A family friend said that Gounder asked for privacy, and would leave all public comment to the U.S. Embassy in Qatar and the United States Soccer Federation.

People have died in middle age previous to Corona, previous to vaccines or whatever. People dying suddenly at his age has happened before, will happen somewhere in the world today, and will happen in the future. These are just facts.

Its very sad but what I think is the most likely thing that happened is a 48 year old acting like he's 20 years younger which unfortunately has cost this man his life. At 28 years of age its much easier to get over some type of infection or flu and battle on at work, at his age? Much less so.

A conspiracy around his death seems extremely unlikely to me given there are dozens of journalists currently in Qatar who have criticized the country in much the same way as this gentleman did, and those people are very much alive.

Again, may he RIP.
