8 game rental? Not likely. First, you try to get him a new deal in the offseason. Second, you can franchise him. This year's safety franchise was 10.89 million. You could free most of that up just by releasing Berry as a post-June 1.


As for defense being complicated, Collins would be twice the safety anyone on the Chiefs is if he were out there freelancing. I'm guessing he has a pretty good grasp on coverage concepts by now though that he just might be able to handle the transition.

Sutton doesn't need elite S play. He just needs competence. Jordan Lucas stepped in and did just fine. Players like Abdullah and Branch have done fine in the past.

If they trade for Collins, it better be because they see him as both immediate help and a long term investment. I'm more than fine with that. Half season rental is no bueno.
