*** Official 2017 Royals Offseason Repository ***

The reign is over. Time to begin the quest for the next one.

Interesting offseason opens for the Royals. Will they go all in for one last shot with this crew? Will they re-tool for 2018 and beyond? Will Dayton Moore actually decrease payroll this time?

Trades, free agent signings, rumors, plans, proposals... dump 'em all here, for this is... the offseason repository!

Royals Top Prospects, 2017

This is a list that’s going to seem a little bleak initially, as Raul Mondesi got enough ABs to age out of the prospect rankings (just barely – at 135 ABs, he is not rookie eligible). But that said, I like the talent and feel like this is a system that will actually be underrated by the prospect services.

Spoiler!

i still think george brett's short stint as batting coach was the turning point over the last four years (give or take, not sure of exact dates)

living 6000 miles away, time difference and life doesn't allow me to watch many games for the season, but as luck would have it i got to see their two series runs. some by luck, and others i took days off work.

last year was an unlucky year, and it hasn't started out great but i see a royal blue silver lining this next season. unsure of moose's status, but most of the team is in tact, and either they tank with emotion from the loss of ventura, or they turn it into a positive. i know it's hard to do with baseball being such a long season. and we've seen what happened after belcher (albeit different circumstances). but i am 'hopeful' they can get a few more long balls and as romo stated, better starting pitching innings wise. you can't always win each game down by 3 in the 8th. they should be up 3 by that point, more often than not.

i want to see alex put up george brett numbers this year at the plate (you tell me, wishful thinking?)

If all those things happen (and think it would be Mondesi starting at 2B, BTW), I think you're underselling the record.

No other reasonable explanation ... steroids/hgh out ... most home runs ever? Yeah, no.

Dayton couldn't forsee it, so it's not his fault ... but a juiced ball is something we can't overcome with our starters.

I think that's one reason we've seen the shift in organizational hitting philosophy. They went away from the contact-oriented approach. Moss and Soler give them two more guys with 25+ HR power.

With Moss, Soler, Perez, Moustakas, Gordon, and Hosmer, you've got six guys who should be 20+ HR guys in the new environment, and 3-4 who could hit 30.

The rotation has question marks, for sure, but I like it, on paper, compared to the 16 rotation. Probably a little more ability to miss bats than the 16 version, which helps in the current environment.

I agree. I think Dayton did a really nice job in short order with adding some pop to the lineup.

Agree. Dayton God Moore addressed the lack of power, IMO. It's not great but that's better on paper.

I'm not sold on the rotation at all. It has me very worried. We will live and die by our SPs IMO. I don't have the optimism about it like some of you.

Im worried about the pen, which is weird to say as a Royals fan.

Herrera and Strahm and what else? What if one of them gets hurt?

It's not going to compare to the 14 pen in terms of depth at the back end - but I don't know that any team in baseball will ever match the Holland-Davis-Herrera combination from that year.

The 15 pen wasn't as dominant 7-8-9, but it was deeper.

Strahm-Herrera still makes you well above average in the 8th and 9th. Question is what you get before that. Soria bouncing back would be huge. I think Flynn is a nice piece, but I don't want him in the 7th on a consistent basis.

Thinking outside the box.

I figure there's a chance they trade Escobar at the deadline for a bullpen arm.

If Esky's defense keeps regressing this season, I doubt he'd have much value at the deadline.

I like the creativity, though.

Interesting. I don't think Escobar has that much value, but you never know until the deadline passes.
