*.* NEW- 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*
I guess we filled up the old one... http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=280149
Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition! No one else started it so here it is! **From the 2013 Thread** If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs If you have questions about the SS programs, look here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE: http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point. |

What the **** is with Crossfitters and taking pictures all the time? I mean, high quality photos of even workouts. I have a friend who has a nice photography camera worth thousands of dollars and they take pictures with it for even a weekday workout. Saw two more posts from different friends on Facebook in a different state and again, high quality photos are being taken. Seems to be a new trend with not only will we talk about every workout we do, but let's also take photos of us working out so people know we mean business! How much more vain can Crossfit get?

Great workout today. I'm pretty sure I got many of the weights pregnant. In 9 months they will have baby weights and then Lewdog can go and lift those.

Razorback related, but still a sweet video that will get you pumped. Ben Herbert is an insanely good S&C coach. I hope we don't lose him anytime soon.
Of special note: Johnathan Williams with the 455 lb. BSS. And, of course, the dudes squatting 705. How much fun would this be to be a part of this, though?

Although it sucks getting older, think of this: if you'd been 18-21 and as serious about fitness then as you are now, you'd probably not be that far off from those guys. Their bodies are capable of crazy shit (not that older bodies aren't) and can maintain that on a fraction of what it costs older people to maintain it. IN addition, they're on a regimented program with their education depending on their ability to perform, just like an actor spending hours a day in a "job" to get fit for a role.
So yeah. I love watching stuff like that. I fantasize being capable of that. But I also try to contextualize it for my current situation (41 year old father of 2 young kids).

So, I added a "bro" day where I do 4x15 of all my favorite accessory exercises, just in case I wasn't getting enough volume in.
Pro tip: Don't do that too close to your max strength day. Missed my 5th rep @ 235 without a spotter on bench. Whoops. That could have been bad. 4th was easy enough, so I let it down for the 5th and just completely lost it. Just ran out of energy and it got stuck halfway up and I had to set it down on the low safeties on the rack. Another 12 hours and I would have been fine, but I did bro day on Tuesday morning and strength day on Wednesday night. Should have waited until Thursday. |

Heh, yeah. I mean, it wasn't even the top set, and it felt totally fine at 4, but I got it off my chest on that 5th rep and just went " . . . . . . ****" and had to unload it.
Thinking back on it, I probably could have done it if I REALLY tried, but I was afraid of hurting myself trying to get it there. It's a good thing the next sets were singles lol |

Consulted with a trainer and started a disciplined diet for the first time in my life. Went from 205 to 186 in the last five weeks. Still no visible abs, lol, but hoping I can get there by Halloween. Been low carb so far... I guess we are going to try carb cycling next.
