*.* NEW- 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*
I guess we filled up the old one... http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=280149
Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition! No one else started it so here it is! **From the 2013 Thread** If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs If you have questions about the SS programs, look here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE: http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point. |

So I'm wanting to start some back strengthening exercises as my work is pretty demanding on my back. What are some things I should look for to strengthen my lower and mid back?

Rack Pulls- in a power rack, set the safety arms to just below the knee. tight lower back arch, chest up and drive through heels. lower back hyperextension or weighted lower back machine - self explanatory, high volume on these Deads & Rack pulls will build your lower back, traps and thicken your erectors like no other. |

New world record deadlift. Love the bloody shins! I usually have one shin that has more of a deadlift mark down it than the other. Glad I'm not alone.

Okay, this is somewhat off topic for the thread but I figured the people who post in here could probably give me the advice I need. Next Monday I'm planning on riding my bike anywhere from 70-100 miles, and I'm looking for suggestions on what the best types of foods to eat before and during that long of a period of physical exercise. I am open to just about anything for breakfast, but whatever I eat during the day needs to be carried with me and space in my bag is limited. Oh, and preferably stuff I can find in a grocery store.
Any ideas would be appreciated. |

Yea, I'd probably roll with snickers and cocaine.

Lots of hikers use Snickers for long trips. Hard to beat the energy pound for pound.
