Sounds like Dewees is somewhere between Billy Burns and Brett Gardner

Re: Duffy's 2014 and 2016 seasons...
2016 is much different because his secondaries suddenly took a big step forward. Dropping the curveball he could never control in favor of more of a slider is a big piece of that. He can throw that pitch consistently for strikes. The big development was Him picking up a changeup, which gave him a great weapon against righthanded hitters. His 2014 was based largely on great FB velocity and command, working up and down in the zone, and getting a TON of weak contact. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sort of. Part of DFA-ing him was to, likely, work out a trade. I imagine the Cubs jumped due to the belief that he'd be claimed by a weaker team.

Though not quite the scale of the Wade Davis-for-Jorge Soler deal, the Kansas City Royals swapped a pitcher for a Cubs outfielder for a second time this offseason.
The team announced Wednesday that it has traded right-hander Alec Mills to Chicago for minor league outfielder Donnie Dewees. Mills had been designated for assignment earlier Wednesday to make room on the 40-man roster for free-agent pitcher Jason Hammel. Dewees, 23, hit .284 with 25 doubles, 14 triples, five homers, 73 RBIs and 31 stolen bases with two Class A clubs. The left-handed hitter was a Midwest League All-Star in 2016, a year after being selected by the Cubs in the second round of the draft. Mills, 25, made his major league debut with the Royals in 2016, also spending time at Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Actually pretty excited about that deal at this point. They got some real value back for Mills.
Dewees is someone I remember the royals being connected to before that draft, fits their profile nicely. He did hit a lot of HR his last year in college, so there is some potential for that to tick back up, even though he hasn't hit for much power in the minors so far. He's also very fast and got good marks for his defense in CF last year. He's kind of a poor man's Andrew Stevenson, the young Nats CF prospect I was so high on during trade rumor season.
