Cleve isn't winning 95. It's way too hard to do that these days esp in the AL. They could, but I'd give them <10% chance

Not a fan of projections, especially when trying to forecast over an entire season. Maybe it's the Royals fan in me that doesn't allow me to open up to them since they seem to get us wrong year-after-year.

I feel like the Yankmees have been underrated given the win/loss totals for the rest of the MLB.

This 2017 version of the Royals certainly won't be lacking motivation this season.

GUYS!!!! GUYSGUYSGUYS!! HUGE NEWS!
Matt Adams really IS "in the best shape of his life"! Gonna have to raise my asking price for him now. Gonna need a bucket of balls AND some used chewing tobacco.

Cam Gallagher sure looks like a guy that would've made it through pretty easy and stayed in the organization. I don't think there would've been an issue there (though I'm hazy on 6-year minor league FA rules, I don't think they matter much here). A slightly overaged catch and throw guy that's never shown much of a bat; there's one of those in every system - nobody's going to dedicate a 40 man spot to claim him. Ramon Torres is still youngish but his clock is damn close to midnight if he can't find some offense soon. With his complete lack of power, aren't you looking at a bad utility man as his ceiling? Merrifield might be moderately useful but if you predict a 12 man staff plus 9 starters (with a DH), you're still looking at only 4 bench spots, one of which is allocated to a C. So you figure 2 IFers, 2 OFers; that's not much bench space. Rather than lose a likely contributor to your bullpen so you can option a guy like Merrifield, why not just cut him loose? And then there's the 'get rid of a veteran you don't need' option with Chris Young. Mills is a better pitcher - full stop. That's a questionable decision, for sure.

I wonder if this is one of Moore's ol' "locker room chemistry/questionable character" moves.
It may be a stretch, but it reminds me of when he released Jose Mijares outright or traded Daniel Cortes for Yuni (barf). Similar rumors surrounded the Eibner and Valencia trades as well. |

Meh, maybe. More likely they like Andrew Edwards' fastball more than Mills' repertoire. I don't. I think Mills has more value. |

Hell, that's all Mills was a year ago. I guess they're hoping he slides through and when camp sorts out some of these roster battles, it may clear a spot on the 40 and they can move him back on.

I don't get DFAing Mills. Especially when it comes in concert with rostering a guy like Samir Duenez - a bat-only guy who hasn't had major success with the bat and who is still pretty far away.

FTR, I don't care for the move, but it's so out of the blue it makes me wonder if there isn't more to the story.

I have no doubt in my mind that the balls were juiced to some extent last year ... it makes sense, baseball isn't growing among the younger generation who are all migrating towards soccer ... so they needed to get more long balls into the game. Which really sucks for the Royals, and really sucks for our pitching staff.
I am usually pretty optimistic but right now I have KC as a .500 squad ... and that's probably more optimistic than anything. Not enough power pitching to negate the obvious juiced baseball. |
