Will "Real Boston Richey" ever be a 2pac? Probably not. But Ross enjoys him.

I always like to listen in to what the players are listening to in the locker room or at camp.

Dudes, it ain't 2pac. It's your modern drill rappers and such.
Real Boston Richey will be lucky to live another 2 years if he's anything like the the dudes you're posting in some of these videos.

Depends on how you define innovative.

The drill scene itself is the newest formula out there, which is an evolution of trap rap.

Would it be fair to say a lot of drill rappers sound similar? Sure. They're following a specific formula.

It's up to you to figure out the ones that stand above the rest, based on your preference.

I am almost 40 and can still find rap I like. People talk about 90's rap and don't mention Freestyle Fellowship or Latyrx?

Yes drill is absolutely innovative I give more credit to the producers who came up with the sound. The rappers are pretty damn interchangeable for the most part

Even satellite radio sucks pretty much. Yeah can at least focus on genre there but even within genres, they play mostly "mainstream" artists.

And if you aren't selective with what you listen to on Spotify or another streaming service, they'll spew out mainstream artists too.

It's kind of like the evolution of metal.

The formulas for what's deemed "metal" have changed over the years. To some people, "Metal" is basically anything with fast drums and guitars.

For others, there are difference in how it's changed and evolved over the years and they can pinpoint them and identify them as changes and/or evolution in the genre.

And like any variant, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll like it MORE than the previous variant. But hopefully you can find something you like and appreciate it.

I'd say I Get Around classifies as a club banger.

But I get what you're saying. The only other club banger I could consider from him was How Do U Want It with K-Ci and Jojo.

In the rap scene, I can't tell you. I'm not much into rap at all other than a few older artists.

But I cannot imagine that the rap scene is wholly different from every other genre out there. In the genres I typically listen to, there's so much new music I can't even consume it all so I have to pick and choose.

Yeah, quantizing and over-production are rampant in the hardcore metal scene, even amongst the small, indie bands.

Yet you still find absolute innovators in the genre like Periphery and Animals As Leaders. Or CP's own Molitoth, who posts his awesome stuff in our media subforum.

I Get Around is one of my favorites from Pac.

But in saying that, if you're in your car driving to the gym and looking for a bop to get the energy going and into the zone, you gonna put on I Get Around or something newer?

Me? I love "I get Around" - All respect to those who break they neck to keep they hoes in check - but imma put on something newer.

Yeah he's never gonna go down in history like a 2pac. But what do i care? For this brief moment in time he captured lighting in a bottle and produced a banger. And there's a number of artists that may come and go just like him.

So long as the music keeps coming, i'll keep consuming. I don't have to wait a decade for Dr. Dre to release his next album.

If you call that a "banger," I guess we just have different ideas of what the definition of a banger is. That just sounds like some wannabe thug speaking incoherently over a very simple beat.

Dude, you are way biased on this topic. The beats in this are just boring AF but the biggest issue I have with almost every new rapper you have posted in their voices SUCK. You cant even make out the words clearly in half the songs.

80's and 90's rap is just heads above this shit and they talked all kinds of killing and ****ing hoes etc..."We want to **** you Easy, I want to **** you too".

And I'm not one to believe there isn't good new music, on the contrary I'm with others saying you just have to know where to find it, but new rap for the most part is just not good in my opinion.

The difference between how that song sounds over a pair of subs while you cruise vs say, "All eyez On Me" is a very, very different experience.
