When you look around at the recent successful young qbs, they all have a few things in common.

First, they're good players, obviously. Second and imo, just as important they go to teams with good support systems and good coaching staffs that put them in good situations.

I don't think there's a better spot for a rookie qb to step into than kc, especially if they add a fee other pieces to the offense and d.

Yeah, we can't waste time on QBs that went to protestant or state colleges.

Romo is Methodist. Therefore, he likely isn't a Jesuit. He's a no-go here...

Rapoport: Chiefs, Bills are most likely trade matches for Tony Romo

With Dak Prescott locked in as the Cowboys' franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future, Dallas will spend the bulk of its offseason deciding what to do with former starting quarterback Tony Romo.

Romo is under contract in Big D through 2019, so he is likely to be traded for draft compensation if teams are interested in his services. But which organizations are willing to take a flier on the oft-injured veteran?

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that the Kansas City Chiefs are one team that could be interested in Romo. Rapoport said that K.C. has been looking to upgrade at the QB position after losing in the Divisional Round for the second straight season with Alex Smith under center.

"It was noteworthy when Andy Reid was non-committal to Alex Smith," Rapoport said on NFL Network. "They've made a QB trade in the past, doing so for Alex Smith. They'd have to be considered someone who would be a possibility."

If the Chiefs were to trade for Romo, they would likely cut Smith, Rapoport reports, per sources informed of the situation. The roster move would cost the organization just $7 million in dead money, per Spotrac.

Another team that could land Romo is the Buffalo Bills. If Sean McDermott and the new regime in Western New York choose to release Tyrod Taylor, who is due $12 million in 2017 up from $2 million in 2016, then trading for Romo would be an option.

All this speculation about possible Romo landing spots would be moot of course if the veteran quarterback settles on retirement instead of moving locales. Rapoport reports that retirement is still something that Romo is weighing.

But if Romo is ready and willing to continue his career and is open to any of these trades, it will make for a fascinating marketplace. Romo is the most risk-reward veteran QB that we've seen on the market since Peyton Manning in 2012 and Brett Favre in 2008. Injury-prone but deadly efficient, he could make or break a contender's season.

Whether he would actually be an upgrade over the safe-and-sure Smith or the mobile Taylor will have to be taken into account as both organizations weigh a trade for Romo.

Let the sweepstakes begin.

The last Rapoport "scoop" that was Chiefs-related was shot down by Clark Hunt himself.

So there's that.......

Romo's an elite QB who would undoubtedly give this team a chance at a SB if he remained healthy. He probably won't actually do that over the course of a full season, but I'll take a chance at a SB over what we have now with Alex Smith.

Would still love to see it happen now, but it's just too bad this didn't happen a few years ago.

Stop kidding yourself.. It's a longshot he is going to remain healthy.

It's a waste of time to consider Romo. He's a backup QB good for a couple games a year at this point in this career.

Oh, I'd probably give that about a 5% chance of happening. And that 5% chance is still better than going through another season of mediocrity and no real hope at a SB with Alex.

Lol....

I don't think we are that far off from winning a SB with Alex Smith. It's not like we are getting blown out in the playoffs and missing the postseason every season. We can win with Alex Smith just need to get better in a few areas.

If the Chiefs do trade for Romo, they need to restructure and retain Foles.

Another question... would anyone entertain Johnny Manziel on a 1-year, vet min, prove it type of deal? I wouldn't mind a Romo/Foles/Manziel QB group heading into next year. If the draft presents a good option, get him, you're not tied to Manziel.
The risk-reward equation with Romo straight sucks balls. There are just too many "what-ifs". And then factor in whatever off the wall compensation that Jones wants, and I don't see a good outcome here.

The best situation for KC would be to move Smith, negotiate with Foles and release him if he won't play ball, and draft a QB.
If Foles is retained under the very clear understanding that he will have a shot at being the starter, you might be able to get a better deal for him.
Foles could in no way, shape, or form suck more ass than Alex Smith, so I see no reason to not start him while grooming a legitimate prospect.
And frankly, I'm dead set against bringing in another ****ing vet QB; enough of that shit already.
I would have no problem replacing Bray's roster spot with Manzeil if Reid thinks he can do something with him. What are we getting from Bray? That's right; the same thing we would be getting with Manzeil, but with an infinitely higher ceiling.

I don't see Denver getting involved, I'm sure many of you think it makes sense, but it doesn't. They made that run with Manning, they won't consider it with Romo.. and they don't need to. They had to make a splash with Elway being young in his tenure in the role and they wanted to move on from Tebow.

They're better off with what they have over Romo right now.
I can see EllieMay being desperate enough to do it.

There has to be something between the rook and handling starting duties for this team and as I see it, Foles could, at the very least, match Smith's output as of late. The talent level of QB we would draft, due to our slot and also due to the fact that there are no generational QB's in this draft( on paper anyway ), is not going to have the ability to run Reid's offense in year one.
I don't think anyone really wants to "see Nick Foles" so much as they would rather see him hold down the fort for a season while KC drafts and makes the transition.
I do however know that no one wants to see Alex Smith( except morons, of course )plod along and piss his pants for another season. If there are any legs to the rumors of the head coach and GM being dissatisfied with Smith, it would make sense to cut bait now while the cap hit is at a low.

I agree with this, but I am not exactly the risk adverse type. Id rather go down swinging with Romo than with Alex watching 3 down the middle go right on by.
