Chiefs Salary Cap 2024 - Moves to be made

Clearly, MVS should and will be cut June 1st which frees up about $11M. There are ways to restructure Mahomes, Thuney and Kelce potentially. The question here is, can the Chiefs find enough room to sign Sneed, Jones, Tranquill and Gay and still sign a top tier WR? I believe the 24 cap is going to increase a well.

Cap gurus, what other move can be made here?

It’s not his job to get a contract so the gm can build the team anyway. I dont get why we have to scapegoat someone

This is the cost of having a generational qb. It is what it is. It’s up to him to play to it and win.

This is the Twilight zone.

And you know what, let's go with that. He forced himself into a new contract that limits what the team can do. If that was the case, why exactly wouldn't Veach say no? Do you think Mahomes would have held out? Would he have went to Clark to get Veach fired? How far are we willing to take this stupid narrative?

Tag and trade Jones. The guy was an all-pro there will be a trade partner out there. The guy is approaching 30 years old find somome wanting to go all-in the next couple years.

Make the necessary moves to become the most feared offense in the league again. Mike Evans in free agency. Package the Chris Jones trade capital with our 2024 1st. If Nabers, Odunze or Bowers falls to 12ish territory go get them. Resign Hardman for cheap. Mahomes with HOFers Travis Kelce and Mike Evans paired with Rashee Rice, Rome Odunze, Kadarious Toney and Mecole Hardman is breaking records.

The defense has a ton of young talent even without Chris Jones. They should still be a top 10-15 defense. We arent looking at 2018 32nd ranked defense here.

But we've re-done Mahomes' deal, and it's expensive.

yeah, you can move some money forward, but then he gets MORE expensive.

You don't just throw out the cap hits when you re-do a deal-otherwise we'd just do it every year (KING, you're wrong here).

The bill always comes due. We're a couple of years in to what should be a ten year plus 'prime' era for Mahomes. If you push all in, you set yourself up for some shit years there too when you have to rebuild.

It took a lot of things to go as badly as possible for the Chiefs to go 11-6 and be the #3 seed.

You can look at that as a 'huge mistake' or you can look at it like 'damn, that's the floor for an Andy Reid/Mahomes led Chiefs team.'

Yeah, let's not re-argue all of that shit. If it helps with that, I'll drop the 'huge mistake' bit. The point is, whatever they tried, it didn't work for whatever reasons.

But my point in my post wasn't about what went wrong, but rather how to move forward from 2023. And the bottom line, as far as I'm concerned, is that they have to spend more money on the offense, even if that means spending a little less on defense in 2024.

And if that means they have to rework Patrick’s contract again, then, so be it. It is what it is.

Yup. Mahomes has leverage in general but it was sky high again after he won the SB, SB MVP and league MVP a few months prior.

It's not anyone's fault. It's Veach's job to build the team, but Mahomes making so much makes that infinitely harder to accomplish.

They can restructure money though. I just wouldn't count on it being something crazy like lowering the cap hit $20+ million.

Mahomes making this much hurts our window. Of course you would take the generational QB but folks forget that only 2 QBs have ever won the SB making 11% or more of their teams cap.

Rodgers, Wilson, Brady, Manning, Elway, Big Ben, Brees. None of them won a title making big cap hits.

If Mahomes re-structure hurts the window and limits how Veach can build the team, why didn't he say no?

Well, I get what you're saying, but I would counter that the problem is we're currently spending UNWISELY, or not getting good value for what we're spending. It's not so much that we're not spending ENOUGH.

Thuney's a great player, but I don't think any OG is worth $26m. Taylor has not been worth the investment this season. MVS certainly hasn't.

Add to that, Creed and Rice have been worthy draft investments, and Smith a steal for a 6th, Pacheco a steal for a 7th-but there have been too many misses and/or underwhelming draft choices on that side of the ball.

It's interesting; you'd think Veach was a DB in college or something, and not a WR.

So I'm going to chalk it up as just simply luck of the draw and expect that to average out. He doesn't tend to make the same mistake multiple times.

But yes, I would expect a slight monetary upgrade over what we pay MVS, and get more production out of that expense.

I also expect a draftee at WR in the first two rounds.

Might be an offense intensive draft across the board, and I think that's probably a good idea.

Let Jonesy walk, re-sign Sneed, and grab a couple of run stuffers to man the DT spot. You'll likely still have a top ten type defense, and if the offense just has guys that can catch a ****ing football, a top five offense.

That'd be pretty tough to beat.

You really want Mahomes pissed at the organization? or feeling unappreciated?

I defer to the high council and the Draftabulators because my membership has not been approved yet..

I went back and looked at the numbers and I had read it wrong. I thought originally if we cut him, we would save 2.5 million but i think its 2.5 million in dead money that would count against our cap

no wonder my membership keeps getting 'delayed'

You guys are really in a thread basically calling Mahomes a locker room cancer. Wtf is going on? Dude is strong arming Veach into deals that limits Veach's ability to build around him and Veach for some reason can't say no. Because....? Mahomes is going to get mad and hold out?

What the **** is going on with you guys?

Ok yeah? I don't disagree. But that doesn't mean that him, his agent, and Veach don't have a structure in place that allows Veach to maneuver around his contract if need be. And this doesn't mean that Mahomes is being selfish and forcing Veach into deals that limits his ability to build a team around him in the middle of his contract.

I legitimately can't believe what I'm reading in this thread.

I can't wait for Veach to restructure Mahomes contract and make a big swing this off season so people can stop trying to win the cheapest team around Mahomes Olympics.
