Did Mahomes regress this season?

Obviously the stats are not as gaudy as 2018.

Even without the injury, his stats would have been down.

Are his stats down because the team didn’t have to lean on him so hard or are they down because he regressed in the red zone?

Discuss....

What if it leads to a Super Bowl ring? They're running a lot more clock right now with the more conservative offense. Seems like that helps the defense and prevents the other team from totally controlling the game as well.

You simply don't know what you are watching, then.

Now, it is true the ball was going short a lot the last two weeks, but that's because the defenses were all set up to take away anything downfield.

And Mahomes was still nails against Chicago, and this last week he was 3-3 on downfield throwing with only 25 attempts.

Perspective, get some.

Oh, I get it. I just hate seeing the best weapon in football being reigned in.

I think I do.

Against the Chargers, Mahomes threw for 175 yards. 100 of those came on 3 passses. 75 came on the rest of them. That spells check down.

You are thinking too much of last week and a couple of other disappointing games this season, and not thinking of the absolute explosions.

Last season was ALL absolute explosions and now that the Chiefs aren't a top 5 offense in the history of the NFL, you think something is horribly wrong.

Just isn't true.

He had 25 attempts.

The Chargers don't allow deep throws, at all. That's their defense.

What did you want Mahomes to do? Blindly throw deep balls into coverage for picks?

You have a lack of understanding.

I'd rather see him get rid of the ball quick instead of getting injured again. He made some big time plays down the field early in the season and took an absolute beating thanks to the crappy OL. Jaguars game being a great example of that.

If he's healthy enough to play, the Chiefs have a great chance to run the table. He won't be healthy enough to play if Reid dials up a bunch of deep balls that take forever to develop behind a trash OL.

I didn't say there was anything wrong. Those are your words. I was just agreeing with 007. There is a hint of Alex Smith creeping into our offense. I doesn't really excite me.

On a lot of Mahomes down field completions where we made big plays he was getting pile driven. While we all love those plays our QB was getting killed so learning to takes what's there and get rid of the ball is pretty important in keeping him healthy. He still makes great throws when we need them.

Chargers offense controlled the clock in that game. Chiefs had a 100 yard kick return TD and 85 yard TD run. Both of these spectacular (and flukey) TD's prevented Mahomes from having 2 possessions to throw the ball. Chiefs defense allowed a ton of 3rd down conversions by the Chargers, which kept that clock running and prevented more attempts for Mahomes.
