There's housing all up and down that side of the mountain and it's immensely sketchy right now. Even Kihei is in danger (south central). Prayers to the locals and anyone who's trapped in this hellscape. Seemed as if the high winds caught them off guard. But beyond the loss of life of the worlds coolest tree (Banyan tree the size of a city block) is probably gone now (https://lahainarestoration.org/lahaina-banyan-tree/).

I mean it's about to get crazy in other areas. The California deserts are about to get annihilated with this hurricane.


1500 people live in the storm drains under Vegas and they are about to get like four inches of rain in like two days.

I saw a documentary about the Vegas underground city, and it sure felt like there were more than 1500. I remember one scene where there was a junction of several tunnels, and it was almost like a scene from Blade Runner or Demolition Man.

No offense but it doesn't take government funded scientists to manage vegetation around that area. A team of livestock could have taken care of most of this dry grassland upcountry (where the fire started). And I think that's what these PHD's told them to do. But there's the potential that the smell of cowshit could be wafted towards the Kaanapali resorts and those things generate the county billions of dollars in taxable revenue. They may be open to that tradeoff now.

i saw the same one probably - agreed, it seems it would be much higher than 1500.
