If you could bring back one of the rivals-villains of CP history that generated controversy-conversation and "team chemistry" for the board, which one would it be? |

And I suppose it depends on the game, the location of the tickets, and whose booty is being used for the bonging. But in general, it would be a difficult sell. |

Hope you wanted real answers here, because I definitely thought through it! For me, Denver is the perfect mix of climate, activities, and culture.
Regarding climate: The stat people love to throw out is that we have 300 days of sunshine per year. That exaggerates things a bit, but it's definitely true that we can have a foot of snow on the ground at 7am and have the roads be dry by 4pm because our clouds rarely stay around long and our dry air means that moisture evaporates quickly. Denver itself definitely gets more snow than KC, but people think "Denver" and equate that to "mountains," which isn't really true. I think I shoveled my driveway 4 times this year, and the biggest snow we got was maybe 6 inches. We rarely get ice storms, and while we do sometimes get extremely cold days in the winter, we don't have the wind that I always remember in Kansas, so it never feels that bad. The summers can get hot, but we usually only bump above 100 a handful of times per year, and we don't have much humidity, so it doesn't feel that bad. Regarding activities: In the summer, you can hike through beautiful scenery, kayak on lakes or rivers, go fly fishing, go hot air ballooning, go camping, go backpacking into the middle of nowhere, or just take a drive to get out of the city and get some fresh air. And with the exception of backpacking, all of that is within an hour's drive of my house. I can get up, eat breakfast, go for a 3-4 hour hike, and still get home with plenty of time to spare for Sunday Night Football. In the winter, I probably ski 10-15 times per year, and almost all of those days are just day trips. Last weekend, I went skiing on Sunday morning. I left my place at 7am, got on the slopes at 9am, skied for 3 hours, grilled brats on a camp stove in the parking lot for lunch, then got home by around 3pm, where it was probably 65 degrees, sunny, with a light breeze. You can also snowshoe or cross country ski if downhill skiing isn't your thing. Outside of outdoor recreation, Denver is big enough to attract pretty much every major national artist or event while being small enough to not feel like the city is stifling. I probably go to 4-6 concerts per year, 3-5 theater performances per year, and 10-15 sporting events per year. We have teams in all five major sports (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS), not to mention indoor and outdoor lacrosse if that's your thing. We have a comedy club that is known by pretty much ever comic out there; Dave Chappelle loves to try out new material here and seems to drop in randomly a few times per year just because he loves it here. Regarding culture: Part of this is just my own set of values, but I really like the people out here (if you ignore their Broncos fandom). People tend to be pretty optimistic and are genuinely excited to be here (as evidenced by our huge immigration rate). This may just be my own bubble, but people tend to be pretty laid back and just want to sit outside at a brewery and have a tasty beverage while hanging out with friends. We're a fairly purple state, and our politicians don't seem to have their heads TOO far up their asses and actually try to get things done collaboratively most of the time. The city just feels vibrant, alive, and growing. Some of that leads to downsides like congestion, but you take the good with the bad. Quote:

I do definitely have friends who are paying 40% or more of their salaries toward rents or mortgages. It doesn't seem sustainable, and I have a feeling our growth rate will slow down in the near future because of it. |

Bleh, I don't know. I tend to stay out of heated arguments, so my memory sucks for those who added a lot of discussion. I kind of miss whoever our resident Jets fan was there for a while. Maybe he's still in DC? Don't see him much in football conversations, though. Most of the Broncos and Raiders trolls I can think of are still here, so there's not much to "bring back." I do hope we can eventually get the team rivalries going again, though. It's been boring in recent years.
