Veach can either trade for Quinn or just acknowledge that he absolutely ****ed this DL up. It’s one of the 5-8 worst lines in football. Just complete garbage.

But at least it makes up for being limited by also being paper thin.

So he's locked into doing what he said at the outset of free agency? He isn't allowed to see how the market evolves and pivot to another path?

You're grading the offseason in mid-May and holding him to some comments from a couple months ago. Things change. The market changes. Teams change.

The question of relevance is not solely "Will the Chiefs field a better defensive line next season?" Rather, it's "Are the Chiefs setting themselves up for more success in the future?"

I would much rather have a guy who reads the room and makes the right decisions for the future rather than someone who feels the need to live up to prior public statement to the detriment of the team.

He didn’t ‘read the room’ as he was letting all these 2nd tier FAs who would absolutely have helped this team sign elsewhere. He simply got out-hustled.

But like I said - always an excuse. I’m sure this was all part of his master plan of taking the DL that was EASILY this teams Achilles heel last year and effectively treading water. 5D ****ing chess, lads…

If Veach is trusting the new DL coach and improvement from Clark as how we’re going to improve at DL, that’s not ideal. For sure. It’s mid May, though. Give him time to make moves.

If he decides to sign Clowney or trade for a DE like Quinn, we will be improved greatly on the DL and will have an extra pick in a great draft class to work with next year.

I think you need to come to terms with the fact that the entire defense minus Jones, the 2 backers, Sneed, Fenton and Ward (now gone) was a giant piece of shit.

Yes the DL was not good. But guess what? The entire secondary was a disaster heading into FA.

This defense was competent last year almost exclusively against poor QBs. And the problem wasn’t entirely the pass rush.

One of the worst DL's in football last year just replaced the most effective player on it with a rookie. That's effectively all they've done. Oh sure, Reed was replaced by Stallworth, so again - lateral move.

But the only major change was adding the 30th overall pick to the line to replace the only guy who played with consistent energy and effort on the line last year. And said rookie who plays a VERY similar game to the guy they let walk.

This DL is a little better (maybe) than the one we ended last season with. Y'know - the one that was a huge part of losing the Cincinnati.

But sure, keep telling yourself that adding one guy is going to change anything.

The issue is that we've tread water on a unit that was BAD. It didn't need to stay the same, it needed to get significantly better.

But hey - at least we replaced that 3rd safety!! Just an aces use of a 2nd round pick.

I love watching you guys wait until Veach throws a dart so you can draw the bullseye around it.

5D chess, fellas. Malik Herring, a guy with a 5th round projection BEFORE he got hurt is surely here to save the day!
