Game of Thrones (spoiler-free zone)
A few have suggested it, might as well test the waters. The idea is to give people who haven't read the books a safe place to talk about the show.
A few quick ground rules:

I enjoyed the heck out of that episode! Many book readers up in arms about the ending, but people have suspected that Craster's sons were becoming white walkers, and it makes sense that the white walkers would have a home base/castle of some kind. Still, this feels like the first time the show has revealed something important that has not been really covered yet in the books, so I found it very intriguing. Of course book readers are also wondering WTF is going on up north in general as those stories for Bran and Jon have taken major detours from the books. I like it, keeps the show fresh and entertaining and keeps the book readers guessing.
I love the Bronn-Jaime scene when Bronn slaps him with his golden hand. Ha! Bronn is just a great character on the show. Littlefinger and Sansa was also excellent. Sansa is learning and her innocence is mostly gone now. Plus now she has Littlefinger to teach her even more about how the game of thrones is played while he creepily fawns over her like she's his lost love Catelyn. Jaime's scenes with Cersei and Tyrion were good as well. They glossed right over the Jaime rape scene, so I guess the implication is that Cersei didn't feel raped and must have given in and was just all part of their screwed up dynamic. I'm glad they approached it that way as I really did not at all like the idea that he raped her last week. Jaime and Tyrion was great, loved the lines about "are you really asking if I killed your son?" and "are you really asking if I'd kill my brother?" But the most intriguing part was Tyrion's last line about Sansa not killing anyone..."yet." Hmmmmmmm..... Jaime and Brienne was great also. They really have an interesting relationship. Brienne and Pod should be entertaining as well, though it is further indication that this season is moving into books 4 and 5 at a good pace (at least on some storylines). Makes me wonder even more how GRRM can keep up with the show in his writing of the books. Assuming we get book 6 in 2015, He will have two years at most in which to get book 7 out before the show will pass him up. That is going to be tough on many book readers, me included. I am intrigued so far, but the more they reveal beyond the books, the less I think I will like that. I prefer to read first, then watch. Oh, and how does Tommen stand any chance against Margery! I'd have creamed my undies for sure if I were him! I don't find Margery all that pretty, she kind of has an odd face in some ways, but she was perfect in that scene riding the edge of seduction without completely crossing over into child molesting. 5 minutes and she has that kid wrapped right around her little finger! She and grandma Tyrell are damn good players of the game themselves! |

Neither did I. It's not in the books as far as I remember. There are several departures from the books this season. There really wasn't that much of a departure from the books in the first 3 seasons.

If you think this is "slow ass". You should check out now. This is book 3 season. Really 1/2 of book 3. Best of the books, IMHO. Books 4 and 5 were slow as hell to me when compared to books 1-3.

Might be best to to avoid comments about books 4 and 5 completely in here, even ones that seem innocuous.

I call BS. CYA to pissed off TV and book fans. Even GRR spoke up on the "rapey" scene being to warped even for him.

Irrelevant to me as I haven't read the books. I assume Martin told them that's how it works, though.
