RAPOPORT: Chiefs prioritizing extending Hill and Jones this offseason, may tag Ford
Hope this is all true, it makes a ton of sense. Sounds like Ford will likely be tagged, as Rapoport says they would like to keep him somehow. |

He deserves it. Guarantee you he sees guys like Trubisky, Darnold, Mayfield, and whoever else making way more money than him and he says "no discount" on the second deal. Fournette making a hell of a lot more than him and doing jack squat for the Jaguars.

With rollover KC should have 45-50m in cap space next year. Tagging Ford will be 18 of that. 6-7 for rookie pool Not a ton of meat left on that bone |

I don’t care all that much about making huge FA splashes this offseason. Just make sure you keep your stars, and hit on some draft picks. We’re already a loaded team whether we add anyone else or not from FA.

His mom teared up when talking about how glad she was he went to Kansas city. A lot of talk about how his agent was carefully building his brand including turning down tons of endorsement deals. He grew up with a bit of money. Naive of me maybe, but I don't think money and ego will play into his decision.

Hopefully the market stays soft and the Chiefs land a 1/$3M stopgap. Thomas is a pipe dream, IMO. |

We just can't afford waiting another 4yrs like we did with Ford. What we are seeing in Ford now is what we should have seen in Ford's 2nd full year. We are sooooooo fortunate he was a very late bloomer. This rarely happens. Lucky we are I say! And even then IF he gets paid which he will whether we choose to or some other team; the question will be will he go back to being unproductive and oft injured? As many do once they get paid. For me, I don't trust Ford.

I don't think his dad was that rich either. He wasn't a superstar in MLB and he played in a time period before the money really got out of control in sports. |

Of course it plays a big part of it at this point in his career. His family is here. He's close with his teammates. He's not going to uproot everything for a few million more. If he was a free agent that would be one thing. But the Chiefs have all the leverage right now. The Chiefs can hold out on Houston. Houston would be stupid to hold out on the Chiefs. Promising him he'd stay in Kansas City is a huge cherry on top.

One factor that has to be talked about is the Chiefs are liable to have an easier time signing players now because of Mahomes and the overall culture they have built in KC.
Some vets who are hungry to win will likely take less money to play there if the alternative is playing for a shitty team. |
