I knew I forgot something. Yeah, we basically had to deal Davis in the offseason even with the DL stints last year. If last year repeated itself and he was on the DL at the trade deadline, we'd totally miss out on cashing in a huge trade piece. Closers have never been valued higher and its a position of depth.

Hands down a great trade. It will be universally graded that way by the beginning of the 2018 season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Playing for Ned should do wonders for his confidence. Soler will know he will be playing and batting in the same spot most every day.

Speaking of Soler... Lesky over at Baseball Prospectus wrote a piece over the weekend about using Soler in the leadoff spot due to his ability to walk and his struggles with off-speed pitches.
With that in mind, I think I'd try to hit him second. Give him the same treatment and protection they gave Moustakas. To keep L-R balance, you'd hAve to shuffle... but you could go Gordon-Soler-Hosmer-Cain-Moustakas-Perez and then let the speed guys at the bottom of he lineup try to manufacture things when they're on (Merrifield, Escobar, Dyson). It seemed to be something of an organizational issue this year (and last). They tried to address it by bringing in guys like Heyward and Zobrist who have taken quality ABs their entire careers. But it seems like there are some habits for guys coming up through the organization that tend to stick with some of these younger hitters. It may be somethin'; may be nothin'. The Angels had a whole system full of braindead hackers outside of Trout so when the Cards brought in Grichuk and Bourjos I thought maybe they could break them of some of that. Nope - turns out it was a scouting issue not a coaching issue. They didn't coach guys to have piss poor plate discipline, they simply brought guys into the system that were pre-disposed to it. That might be the case with Soler - maybe the Cubs have a scouting philosophy that creates that hole rather than a coaching philosophy. But if you're the Royals, you need to find out first. Try to coach him out of the issues with breaking balls and if you can't, then worry about lineup position that gets him fed fastballs.

Didn't Davis start to show wearing down last season with injuries particularly the forearm? We'll see if he stays healthy. I like the return the Royals got.
