The 2024 DT market.

In the worst case scenario, Jones doesn't get extended, plays out his final year, and walks in free agency.

Yikes. Yikes yikes yikes.

Regardless, here's the DT market aside from Jones in 2024:

DJ Reader (Bengals)
Grover Stewart (Colts)
Fletcher Cox (Eagles)
Sheldon Rankins (Texans)
Austin Johnson (Chargers)
DaQuan Jones (Bills)
Justin Jones (Bears)
Michael Pierce (Ravens)
Tim Settle (Bills)
Teair Tart (Titans)
Rakeem Nunez-Roches (Giants)
Javon Kinlaw (49ers)
Christian Wilkins (Dolphins)
Zach Sieler (Dolphins)
Quinton Jefferson (Jets)
Taven Bryan (Colts)
Greg Gaines (Bucs)
Hassan Ridgeway (Texans)
Andrew Billings (Bears)
Al Woods (Jets)
Kevin Givens (49ers)
Ross Blacklock (Vikings)
Adam Butler (Raiders)
Josh Tupou (Bengals)
Raekwon Davis (Dolphins)
John Jenkins (Raiders)
Eddie Goldman (Falcons)
Johnathan Hankins (Cowboys)
Carl Davis (Patriots)
Maurice Hurst (Browns)

And on and on it goes.

Keep in mind, the DTs this team will have under contract in 2024 is: Keondre Coburn

That's it, suckers.

The Chiefs' free agent DTs in this scenario: Chris Jones, Tershawn Wharton, Derrick Nnadi, Daniel Wise or literally anybody else on the roster other than Coburn.

I believe Leonard Williams is currently scheduled to hit FA as well.

I assume they have a plan but I’d really like to know what it is. Even with Jones in the fold you shouldn’t be ignoring the position to the level KC has. Take Jones away and they have their work cut out for them next year.

I think they can plug a lot of the dam with Zach Sieler, who the Dolphins won't be able to pay but we suddenly will be. It'll also be interesting to see how well Coburn develops. If he develops well, we may not need to make investments at that NT position for someone like Sheldon Rankins.

Normally I'd like to see them take a swing on Kinlaw as well but if he didn't succeed under DeMeco, he's probably cooked.

I don't expect we'll be big players in free agency...well...for the foreseeable future. Bargain hunting, sure.

I expect they'll be signing Jones, and drafting.

They were pretty big spenders last year.

IMO it depends on what happens with Jones. If he doesn’t get extended I could see them going for someone like Reader or Wilkins if they hit FA.

Reid and MVS? I guess if you consider that big spending.

Sure, but I doubt it. They'll get it done with Jones.

If they can extend Jones, I am dreaming of an interior line including reader and Jones. Up, good luck nfl. That would be a beefy DL. The chiefs would virtually never need to blitz to get pressure.

As a benefit, if they do this pre-draft, it adds flexibility.

Would be dreamy, but no way in hell they allocate that much money at DT. Vita Vea is getting about $18 million a year, I’d guess Reader gets somewhere close to that.

Oh I dunno, they have 46 players under contract and 45 million in cap space with a handful of draft picks. I think next year will be spicy in free agency.

Well, pretty different positional value. Taylor is well paid, but to protect Mahomes. I've got no problem with that.

They also have the highest paid LG in football.

So they'll spend if they feel it's necessary is all I'm saying.

Sure.

But there aren't any Chris Jones's available, and I don't see them spending elite money on a lesser player.

So I reckon it's Jonesy and/or draftees/bargains at DT.
