NASHVILLE – Authorities believe an explosion that occurred in downtown early Christmas morning and was felt for miles was an "intentional act" sparked by a vehicle.

Police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked outside the AT&T building just before 6 a.m. Upon arrival, police said an officer "had reason" to alert the department's hazardous devices unit, which was en route, when a "significant explosion" happened..."

Kind of bizarre. Almost has to be a botched attempt at something far more devastating. Thankfully sounds like only a handful of people were injured, and nothing life threatening.

Sounds like it detonated not too long after a cop saw something suspicious and called in the bomb squad. So maybe destroying evidence?

Yep, obviously they put it in place too early. Reports of gunfire at the scene is what brought the first cops to the scene. I doubt gunfire was part of the plan to set this off.

A friend of mine in Nashville says that area would have been packed solid with people this afternoon.
