MVP is meaningless if he doesn't win it with these numbers.

One of the worst defenses in the league and they go 12-4 with all 4 losses within a single possession. If Mahomes’ name was Luck, Stafford, or another veteran, there would be no debate. People are using his young age against him as if he is guaranteed to have another season like this again.

Every argument I’ve heard for Brees is rendered irrelevant because the numbers are so lopsided in favor of Mahomes.
I’ve read a lot of people pointing to quarterback rating, overall team record, the way the Saints look when Brees isn’t out there, etc. It’s all a bunch of horse shit. Mahomes’ numbers are so much better that this whole argument should be moot. I’ve also seen those same people pointing to Mahomes record against top shelf competition. However I don’t see anybody talking about Brees’ performances against Dallas or Carolina. I don’t see anybody talking about his 4 game stretch where he was effectively horrendous and had to rely on his defense to bail him out. Hell, I’ve seen people talking about how Mahomes scores way too quickly and puts his defense in terrible positions. None of those people want to talk about how New England and Denver’s defenses didn’t seem to have a problem with the two of them putting up like numbers. The whole thing is a smokescreen so that the media can give Brees his lifetime achievement award. I have not heard one logical argument in favor of him. Not one. This should be as cut and dry and MVP race as you’ll see. But, I would not be surprised at all if Mahomes is not the MVP.

I think it discredits the MVP award if he doesn't get it. If they give it to Brees because he never got one before and had a great career and he's about to retire, then that turns the MVP award into some lifetime achievement/participation trophy.

FWIW, I thought Mahomes was the run away MVP choice all season from about wk 4, on.
But, I really don't care if he gets the award or not. This is his 1st of many yrs in this league. He's going to be here a long time and will have multiple chances to win the award. Doubt the MVP award even means shit to Mahomes anyways, SB is the only award that matters. I just want a SB appearance...and of course to win it all, but I think majority of us thought we'd have a 9-7ish season and would accept a SB appearance as a successful season, even if Chiefs were to lose SB. There's a changing in the guard in the AFC with Brady and Ben aging, and those teams as a whole being just shells of their former selves. Mahomes is the new face of the AFC, he's going to get multiple chances at a MVP/SB etc.. But this team, us fans, deserve a AFCCG win at Arrowhead. I will be there, and after all of these years of the Chiefs making me feel like I witnessed someone run over my dog when leaving the stadium, I will want to witness a SB clinching win, hand. Anything less will be a failure.
