More than you care to know about what CP styles people use

I was bored, so I downloaded the User table and ran a few stats on what styles people use around here. So here are a few interesting things I learned about PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ACTIVE IN NOVEMBER 2019.



Three-fourths of people never even choose another style, so by default they're using Full Featured (with filters). I actually sometimes wonder how many people actually know about 90% of the options we have around here.



Among those who DID choose something other than default, most are Full Featured (filtered) or Full Featured (unfiltered), though Dark Mode isn't far behind. Of course, it's important to remember that Dark Mode hasn't been around for very long.

I'm also kind of floored by how many people are using At Work mode. I wouldn't have guessed more than 10% were using that.



Among those who DID choose something other than default (even if they have explicitly chosen Full Featured (with filters)), about half are using some sort of filtered version of CP, while half of people are using a version that lets you drop f-bombs to your heart's content. It's a weird stat, though, as again, 74% of people just keep the default, so it's really only around 14% of people overall who have filters off, and some of them are likely there because we don't have filtered versions of Dark Mode or Royals Planet.

And before anyone asks, you can change your style in your User CP or in the menu to the far bottom left of any page.

FYI, I use dark mode via the lower left menu, but in my user options, it's set to full featured (unfiltered). Not quite sure how that works, or how it might be impacting your numbers.

When I'm at work, I use m.chiefsplanet.com. The full forum is classified as "security risk: pirnography" by my company's web filter.

My work computer has 'at work' mode. Home is unfiltered night mode.

I have almost eaten that much pie this weekend.

Yeah, I THINK it goes off of whatever's in your UserCP. Settings aside from that are saved in a cookie, so you're right that that could mess the numbers up a lot.

In my case, it's using the setting from the dropdown in the forum, not what's set in my options.

It’s somewhat surprising to me how many folk use a filtered version. As an unfiltered user, I find it super funny how many people actually manually put **** when they curse.

Well I didn't know about that but just changed it to unfiltered. In my defense though I've only been here for a little over seventeen years.

I THINK that, if you're posting from the unfiltered version, it will filter it as it's being posted.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. They type "****," but the filter grabs the text they type and filters it before committing it to the database, so the actual version stored in the database is "****" instead of "****".
