PFF: Ranking of Secondaries & OLs
Finally, a bit of pre-pre-season football analysis! PFF came out with their ranking of NFL Secondaries and Offensive Lines. Chiefs were in at #13 for secondaries and #17 for OLs. Methinks that at this point in time, that's probably reasonable.
Anyway, here are the links for your reading pleasure: https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro...e-2016-season/ https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro...e-2016-season/ |

You can hate if you want, I don't care, but I will say that PFF uses their own grading system, which is obviously different from whatever system is posted on the link you provided (which likely is NOT how the Chiefs' coaches internally graded their players, as that stuff usually isn't public).

Color me loony (Dane does), but I kinda like PFFs rating approach. Sure, it's subjective, but I think they at least make efforts towards objectivity via their rating methodology. Anyway, not everything appeals to everyone so if some like it, fine; if some don't that's fine too. Nonetheless, in my view, it does provide a platform for a relatively unbiased rating system.

Russell Wilson is going to be running for his life this season, as if it wasn't bad enough the last few years

I would be thrilled if we had a top half of the league secondary this year.

Smell, I think our secondary could be better than last year. Actually, I'm basing that on having a great set of LBs (assuming Houston is fine physically) and an up and coming DL - I think Chris Jones is gonna be a handful. Guy is a man mountain and seems to have an excellent attitude. Both of these units will definitely make our secondary's job easier.

I think pre-training camp rankings are extremely premature.
A preseason ranking would have more credibility if they waited until after at least a couple of preseason games. And there is little chance that Jordan Devey is on this roster at the start of the season, which leads to further credibility issues.

Actually I think with Gaines returning from injury and Russell on there that is a pretty favorable ranking. With it just being pre-preseason and all. I mean, Gaines is probably the guy that has been in the league the longest with 3 years. Pretty young CB's to get that high of a grade.

PFF is trash that Chiefs oline is a top 10 unit and the secondary won't matter much if Houston plays like he did in 14.
