Chiefs Salary Cap 2024 - Moves to be made

Clearly, MVS should and will be cut June 1st which frees up about $11M. There are ways to restructure Mahomes, Thuney and Kelce potentially. The question here is, can the Chiefs find enough room to sign Sneed, Jones, Tranquill and Gay and still sign a top tier WR? I believe the 24 cap is going to increase a well.

Cap gurus, what other move can be made here?

Thuney is getting up there in age. I don't think you can do much with that contract.

When MVS signed his deal, the chances of him not being here for the last year was slim to none. Jones is done unless he takes a team friendly deal to stay a Chief and that's not happening. I think we try to give sneed a deal, and if not we tag and trade him. I don't think we will push Thuney down the road any farther, we've already done that for next year. I think they try to keep Tranquill. I think Gay is gone. They probably try to sign Creed to a long term deal. It's gonna be interesting.

You’re going to have to choose between Tranquill and Gay. Jones is probably gone. Sneed depends on how much he wants.

I want Gay to force the issue so badly.

Just go into the playoffs and have a light bulb come on. Show me you're learning.

Because that dude has UNICORN physical tools. Guys that strong shouldn't be that fast. And he's agile to boot. Hell, watch the guy jump - it's DB stuff.

I hate hate hate even the small possibility that he goes somewhere else and puts it all together because I'm not kidding when I say he has HoF physical traits.

But I just don't know how much faith you can put in that happening at this point. But if I were Veach I don't think I'd be able to let him walk. The tools are just too loud and at the very worst the energy he brings is a real thing.

You can't restructure Thuney. It's relative to his absolutely elite performances in 2021 and 2022 but he's taken a significant step back this year. Allowed more pressures in 2023 alone than 2021 and 2022 combined. Quietly had a pretty rough year.

You could have Gay and Sneed for the price of Jones.

That's easy

Honestly….if Sneed prices himself out of our range then I’m good with bringing Gay and Tranquil both back. We’re going to need to be stacked somewhere with how raw our defensive line is going to be. Plus this year showed the need once Bolton went down.

Yeah - he's on the backside. He will likely be gone after 2025 and a restructure will make that all the more difficult.

We probably want to look at an IOL in/around the 3rd round this year.

I'd make Tranquil and Bolton the priority. Gay isn't putting it all together.

And I love Sneed but this secondary is very deep at the moment. Watson looks like he could be special in time and he'd be our no 2 anyway. McDuffie has HOF potential.

I figured we'd tag and trade Jones but Sneed's performance has complicated things a bit. Good problem to have I suppose.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Jones is gone. Period. I think Sneed is going to be a priority and will be their focus, IMO. As much as I like Willie Gay, I think they'll let him walk, but try and sign Tranquill. MVS is getting cut. They save $11MM in cap space doing that. They have no choice but to try and find a top line WR. This has to be the most frustrating year for PMII to have so little talent to throw to. They can't continue to waste the prime years of Mahomes.

Part of the reason why Josh Allen struggled against us was bc Willie Gay was spying him and almost completely wiped away his ability to take off and run.

There were a couple times early in the game where Josh didn't have anything downfield and started leaving the pocket seeing open field but Willie came roaring through and Josh realize real quick that he wasn't gonna outrun or run through that freak of nature.

And as much as I would like to keep Willie I think they're going to (gulp) save that money for Nick Bolton, for better or for worse. Someone is gonna overpay for Willie. We all know that's coming. He's young with a very high ceiling.

That's why if he leaves I think we should immediately go after Isaiah Simmons who is very similar in size and athleticism and might come here bc he's from Olathe.

I like our secondary...but I don't think it's got guys that can do nearly what Sneed does and having him and McDuffie hides alot.

I'd just pay him and move on.

Tranquill is fine, but there are always those guys available. If he wants like 7 mil per for a few years, ok maybe.

I'd like to keep some of it, but the offense needs infusions and those aren't cheap.
