Pull the ripcord at CB?

Our current depth chart projection at CB, courtesy of Kent Swanson of AP Lab:

Outside: Bashaud Breeland
Outside: Charvarius Ward
Slot: Kendall Fuller
Backups: Keith Reaser, Rashad Fenton, Mark Fields
Practice Squad: D'Montre Wade, Tremon Smith

This was before training camp. In the two days since it's started, Breeland has suffered a relatively minor injury, and the rest of the squad has played... not great.

So... is it time to pull the ripcord?
  • We know the Vikings are stacked at CB, and Trae Waynes could be a valuable asset.
  • We also know the Giants are desperate at WR now, and there's a rumor they're eyeballing Demarcus Robinson. Their CB depth chart is reportedly okay. But I don't know these guys, other than Janoris Jenkins.
So the Chiefs can't really go out and get a stud at this point, but maybe they can add desperately-needed depth at the position and maybe a starter by trading off a 2020 3rd to the Vikings for Waynes and Robinson for the Giants #3 corner (let's just say -- Eli Apple? -- like I said, I have no idea).

CB depth chart would then be:

Outside: Bashaud Breeland
Outside: Trae Waynes
Slot: Kendall Fuller
Backups: Charvarius Ward, Eli Applie?, Reaser/Wade/Fenton/Fields/Smith

Thoughts?

Do you think Peterson is still a top flight guy, I mean being 30 and testing positive for PEDs kinda waves a flag that he could decline rapidly.

Not only can we not afford him he has the wrong attitude to be a part of this team.

He just turned 29 years old.

I trust him to be at least decent/good for 2 years, and that's exactly what this team needs at the position, knowing they will draft a CB high next year.

But yeah, not giving a 1st round pick at all for a 29 year old CB who is suspended for 6 games. A mid 2nd round pick like the Chiefs have is really fair value.

Are we sure they'll take a guy high next year? Or will Veach just say again that the board didn't work out so they ended up taking a tight end?

D’ Montrey Wade? Sounds like he’s playing really well.

Did you watch the draft the last 2 years? Do you follow the process at all?

If you did, you’d know that without a 1st the last 2 drafts, while also picking late, that’s exactly what has happened. Did you watch the episode of The Franchise where Veach showed Clark the corners he liked in this draft? All of whom went off the board early in the 2nd? You think he’s just doing that to make people like you believe he sees corner as a position of need when he really doesn’t?

We have a 1st round pick next year and likely a fairly early 2nd. We will get a corner, and hopefully you will finally shut the **** up about it.

Im fine giving up a 3rd for a corner this year bc you can trade back and get that type of value fairly easily in the draft.

I’m wondering if the Chiefs end up trading Chris Jones. I want to keep him, but money is about to be awfully tight with 3 players making 20 or more million cap hits + Fisher, Schwartz and Kelce making big cap hits as well. Just don’t think that Jones is gonna but we’ll see.

Next year we should start operating like Chris Ballard. Trade down, rape stupid teams like Redskins and collect higher picks while taking quality players in rd 2.

Ideally we get a 1st and 2nd for Jones. That would surely help solve lots of issues.

Yes to all of this.

I'd also add that if Tyreek Hill weren't in limbo, I strongly think the Hardman pick would've been used on a corner or the capital would've been used to move up further to grab a corner. Just the situation we found ourselves in.

The fact that they grabbed a presumptive starter like Thornhill shortly after is a major coup.

I hope you're so calm and confident when Mike Williams is skull ****ing our corners again to the tune of 2-3 touchdowns losing the game for us at the end.

I'd give Veach a pass if he drafted someone and it just didn't work out. Instead he decided to trade away Peters and failed to address cornerback at all other than signing trash like Amerson and Scandrick.

And he’s had to rebuild on the fly with the 3-4 to 4-3 switch. Lot of new faces on defense already. It’s still a work in progress but it should be better than last years Red Carpet defense.
