Is KC a Baseball town or a Football town?

So this tweet got me thinking that KC is primarily a baseball town. At least when the Royals are good.

Just looking through the posts it feels like apathy has set in again with the Chiefs....

Disgussss.....

The chiefs have lost major ground over the last year. They'd only have to go on one run to win back those fans they've jaded. I'm glad there will be an entire generation of young fans who will give a shit about the Royals though. The NFL is king, so the chiefs will always be relevant, but maybe not the talk of the town.

They aren't exclusive, in my view. The only thing that I've observed is that the Royals have cut into my interest level for the Chiefs now...but all the Chiefs are doing is preseason/camp stuff right now.

I think when the Chiefs start the regular season, KC's not going to be a baseball town or a football town...it's just going to be a FREAKING AWESOME town. So much joy.

It is a sports town. What the Royals have going for them right now that the Chiefs sort of struggle with is a large group of good homegrown players who are the core of the team that the fans can get really emotionally invested with.

Anecdotal here but it sure seems like the Royals are winning over the female fans from everyone I talk to, from what I see on my facebook and email feeds and what the crowds look like at the games. 5 years ago I couldn't get my wife to watch 5 seconds of a Royals game, now she knows the players, wears the gear and goes to girls night out at the K. Prob just temporary but I've never seen female interest like I'm seeing now

I don't think there's ever been a year in KC in which the Chiefs and their baseball counterparts, whether it was the A's or the Royals, both reached postseason.

They haven't lost one iota of ground. The difference is that instead of the NFL draft and training camp taking front an center from April to August, the Royals are actually winning.

Arrowhead and the Chiefs will once again be the talk of the town once football season starts and baseball season ends.

I'm not from there but it seems more like a football town.

That's not to take anything away from the Royals and their fans but it just seems like there is more passion and liveliness with football than baseball. I'm giving my outsiders perspective.

It's Hosmer. All the girls are creaming for the dude.

It's also worth noting that the Royals are currently one of the better teams in the league with it's own distinct identity and look. Hosmer, Cueto, Ventura, Perez, Moose, Gordon, Cain have a unique chemistry and the fans are just eating it up. It's easy as **** to market that.

The Royals story took a life of it's own and is selling itself right now. I imagine all the marketing team have to do right now is just show up to the office, massage their nipples for 8-10 hours, then head home.

Yes. It happened in 2014. Chiefs choked at Indy in January and the Royals ran into the buzzsaw known as Bum.

Not the same seasons, I know, but they did occur in the same calendar year.

I'd say we are a sports town, but at the same time the KC area isn't going to put up with what they know is a crap effort by ownership and management. We love our teams, but there is only so much abuse you can put on smart people before they figure out something else to do with their money.
