I've been remodeling the downstairs of my home. I did a textured ceiling though because it was already so ****ed up and peeled that I thought it would be too much effort getting it flattened out.
But use flat paint, it's supposed to help hide imperfections and is recommended for ceilings. this is my finished product for the pantry ceiling as you can see I still have noticable lines from where the cracks were. But I'm not too much of an expert, everything is trial and error with me lol. With thorough google research first.

Yeah, I know! Gotta keep momma happy. Still though, should of probably had the ceiling done knock down style and painted with flat white. The only thing that might work with the high gloss is using a sprayer or professional painter. JMHO.

its really just easiest way to explain the motion you should go for. basically you are dancing in a circle painting 'x's till you fill the voids. I push the roller north and pull back east then push west and pull back north and push south and pull back west. if that makes any sense.

didn't read others posts, so apologize for Q but:
A) dont use gloss paint on ceilings, unless MAYBE its in the kitchen or bathroom B) roller marks shouldnt be a problem...go get a 3 pack of a high quality 1/2 inch or 3/4 nap roller ..... after the primer is dry you should really only need 1 coat if it is good paint, since you primed it but SURELY you wouldnt have roller marks if you use a good roller and good paint properly... heres how you do it: 1) make a large V with your roller, thicker nap = more paint = bigger V...but like 2 feet by 2 feet is good for starters 2 ) fill in the V....(derp!) (TO MAKE A SQUARE ..DURP) like the top two points of the V are the top corners and the bottom point is in the middle of the bottom line 3) 'reload' the roller when the V is done and filled in, so you will assure that every V is about the same coat of paint (thick) 4) maKe the next V barely overlapping 5)keep making / FILLING IN V's till out of beer / walls / ceiling 6)throw away rollers that are used or keep maybe 1 day in refridgerator for next day in plastic bag, wet...not worth the time or energy to wash them PROPERLY AND DRY THEM IMO best of luck man ps this method will work for any gloss as well

I actually like a semi gloss on the ceilings- as it ages they seem to hold up better and are scrubable in case your budy decides to shake a beer and open it-lol But the drawback it that is does show imperfections. Unless it is a huge water spot-most people will never even look at the ceiling. The Semi will brighten the room as well.

I'm not an expert but I've painted lots and lots of ceilings and walls and everything else (20 rental properties), I normally go to walmart and buy the cans of paint labeled "Ceiling paint" and just apply that . Never remember seeing any roller stripes. And I use the left over on the walls, cabinets , carpet, whatever !
