Star Wars Rogue One Spoiler Thread

There's quite a bit of info trickling out so its probably time to start a spoiler thread. I'll update with a trailer when it's available.

Trailer #1. This looks amazing!!! Darth Vader, The Emperor, Jyn (Rey's mother?), Forrest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Alan Tudyk.

If only there was some way to find that information. Like an internet database of movies.

P.S. It's James Earl Jones.

Yes, it's James Earl Jones. The Director, Gareth Edwards, has spoken about how awesome it was to work with him.

So it's set after Revenge of the Sith but before A New Hope? I see Vader. Is he going to be a focal point? Will any of the remaining few Jedi be seen?
The ending of the this film is supposedly 5 minutes before the opening of A New Hope.

As far as Jedi, the standard answer has been "no" but the script has been rewritten and changed so many times that no one knows at this point. Gary Whitta wrote a draft, Chris Weitz wrote the next draft, Tony Gilroy did a polish, etc. The Force is supposed to be ever present.

Vader isn't the "focal point". This film is about the Rebellion Against the Empire finding out that the Empire has a "Super Weapon" (The Death Star). The Rebels, led by Mon Mothma, attempt to sabotage or destroy the Death Star.

Prefacing this by saying I've never watched any of the cartoons or read any of the books. I've only seen the movies.

I thought all of the Jedi but Yoda and Obi-Wan were destroyed in RotS?

Put it this way, to use a line from "ROTJ", that's from "A certain point of view".

In Rebels, Kanan Jarrus was a padawan that's very powerful in The Force. He takes on a 13 year old kid, Ezra Bridger, as his padawan (even though Kanan never achieved the rank of Jedi Knight). Ezra is extremely powerful in The Force, far moreso than Luke ever was in the OT.

From there, Anakin's padawan during the Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano, left the Jedi Order in Season 5. She uses two white lightsabers, which she sees as neutral. She's a powerful Force user but she never achieved the rank of Jedi Knight.
Spoiler!

Also, for those of you that haven't seen the Clone Wars or Rebels,
Spoiler!

All of that said, I'd highly recommend watching The Clone Wars series on Netflix, then Star Wars Rebels on Disney or Blu Ray. TCW has a tie in with Rogue One.

Spoiler!

Star Wars Rebels, which is happening at the same time as R1, will supposedly have a tie in as well. Lucasfilm has already stated that animated characters seen in Rebels will be seen in future movies.

Both series, IMO, start out a little slow in Season 1 but after that, look out. They both become fully awesome.

I think I started TCW on Netflix. Didn't make it past Ep1. Not sure I even finished Ep1.

As I mentioned, it starts a little slow. There are new characters introduced immediately and the animation isn't as good as it becomes in Season 2.

"Force" yourself to watch it.

It's an extremely well written show that provides much more information about Anakin, Obi Wan, Padme, the Sith and the Clones. The voice actors are excellent, too.

IMO, the Clone Wars series is what the prequels should have been.

If you're interested in hearing more, go to the Apple iTunes store, search for Ninja Tracks.

The album is called Elemental and the track used in the R1 Trailer is called The Machination.

What's with that? I mean, some of the early episodes are painful!

So bad I quit watching and didn't watch again until after TCW has finished. If not for the CP thread and the feedback here, I don't think I would have given it a 2nd look.

Then Rebels does the same thing? It feels like those early episodes are intended for a 5 year old.

So bad it's crazy the later episodes that are good can be the same show.

I'm predicting about a 12% chance that this isn't my all time favorite Star Wars film.

Not shocking.

It's the first to veer off the franchise path and less handcuffed in many ways to deliver something that raises the bar. We're just about to step down and touch the tip of the iceberg of stories to come from the SWU.

They've certainly amassed a collection of tremendous talent on and off screen. It looks like it has major promise.
