Earl Campbell On Helmet Rule - "I Played Football With My Whole Body"

I was waiting for Earl Campbell to speak up about the new helmet rule.

For you younger guys back in the 70's/80's Earl was one of the fiercest running backs and used his head and his whole body to run over everyone.

Earl Campbell was the true definition of the word "beast". No one wanted to tackle him.

Earl says the new rule is a joke and he would never had lasted if it was in place in his time.

"The quarterback is going to end up wearing a dress."

"Just play flag football."

He can't walk but it's from his back disease, Spinal Stenosis.

He has a curved spine and was born with it, football just aggravated it.

yeah. you're right. using his head as a battering ram for 10 years had nothing to do with it.

I didn't say it had nothing to do with it of course it did.

Lots of other players did the same thing and can walk fine.

Earl ****ed his back up more playing the way he did.

"While Campbell’s origins in Tyler and his playing career make up a significant portion of the film, the bulk of it is about his post-career struggles with spinal stenosis, the congenital condition that could have led to paralysis had he been hit in a certain fashion during his playing days, and the resulting back surgeries that led to dependence on alcohol and pain-killers that required him to seek assistance a couple of years ago."

Because changing football the way its being changed isn't already killing the sport...

Boxers need to start wearing sparring gear during fights.

In my opinion, no. Boxing is DEAD so i fail to see how it supports your argument.

If you believe Boxing is dead then substitute Boxing with UFC.

Taking a contact sport and removing the contact, slowly but surely, isn't changing/killing the sport, in your opinion... Makes sense.

Earl Christian Campbell was something special when he played. I was at the MNF game back in '78 or '79 in the Dome when he went end around on a sweep for LONG TD run in OT to beat the Dolphins. The thing about Earl was everyone knows he was a powerful runner, but he was VERY fast in pads as well.
